Marqos is said to have traveled to Mitsrayim and first proclaimed the Besorah in Alexandria. Eusebius regards the Alexandrian assembly as founded through him and later traces its succession from Annianus. He praises the early Egyptian community for disciplined philosophical and ascetic life, though his attempt in the following chapter to identify Philo's Therapeutae as Christians reflects his own interpretation of an ascetic Yehudi group. The chapter nevertheless preserves the ancient claim of Alexandrian Christianity to apostolic-era origins through Marqos.
