In the eighth year of Nero, Eusebius says, Annianus succeeds Marqos as leader of the Alexandrian assembly. The notice is brief but important to Eusebius's method: he continually synchronizes local succession lists with imperial reigns. Alexandria, Rome, Antioch, and Yerushalayim become his principal institutional timelines.
