Book III carries the narrative through the destruction of Yerushalayim, the post-apostolic successions, Domitian, Trajan, early writings, and Eusebius's catalogue of accepted and disputed texts. Eusebius's library work is central here. He names books, quotations, disputed writings, teachers, and chains of reception, often preserving information about works that later disappeared. Papias is quoted for traditions about Mark, Matthew, oral transmission, and people he called elders. Eusebius judges his millennial expectations harshly, but his quotations remain crucial evidence because Papias's own work is lost. In this reconstruction the chapter coordinate is preserved as Book 3, Chapter 39, and the full subject is retained under the heading 'The Writings of Papias'. Names, dates, quoted-source relationships, and political or textual function are kept distinct from Eusebius's own interpretive claims.
