Book VIII is Eusebius's eyewitness generation: the Great Persecution, destruction of meeting houses, imprisonment, torture, martyrdom, political reversals, and the first imperial revocation. The chapter records coercion under Roman or local authority: arrest, interrogation, confiscation, exile, torture, execution, or public pressure. Eusebius praises endurance but also records those who yielded, fled, or were later restored. He synchronizes local leadership with imperial reigns, using successions at Rome, Alexandria, Antioch, and Yerushalayim as chronological anchors. These notices are institutional claims from his sources, not proof that every later title or jurisdiction existed in identical form from the beginning. In this reconstruction the chapter coordinate is preserved as Book 8, Chapter 13, and the full subject is retained under the heading 'Overseers Who Sealed Their Proclamation with Blood'. Names, dates, quoted-source relationships, and political or textual function are kept distinct from Eusebius's own interpretive claims.
