1
I, Baruk, departed from there and came to my people. I called my firstborn son, Gedalyah my beloved, and seven of the elders of the people, and said to them:
2
Behold, I am going to my fathers by the way of all the earth.
3
But you, do not withdraw from the Way of the Torah. Guard and warn the people who remain, lest they withdraw from the Commands of the Mighty One.
4
For you see that He whom we serve is Righteous, and our Maker shows no partiality.
5
See what befell Tziyon and what reached Yerushalayim,
6
so that the Judgment of the Mighty One may be known, and that His unsearchable Ways are upright.
7
If you endure, remain in fear of Him, and do not forget His Torah, the times shall change to good for you, and you shall see the consolation of Tziyon.
8
For what now exists is nothing, but what is appointed is exceedingly great.
9
Everything corruptible passes away, everything mortal departs, and all the present time is forgotten. There shall be no remembrance of this present time defiled by evils.
10
For the one who now runs, runs toward emptiness, and the one who prospers shall quickly fall and be humbled.
11
What is appointed is what must be sought; concerning what comes afterward we must hope, for there is a time that does not pass.
12
The appointed season that remains forever is coming, and the new world. It does not return those who enter its beginning to corruption, show compassion on those going to torment, or lead those living in it into destruction.
13
These are the ones who shall inherit that promised time, and theirs is the Inheritance of the appointed time.
14
These prepared for themselves storehouses of Wisdom, found treasures of understanding, did not withdraw from compassion, and guarded the Truth of the Torah.
15
To them the world to come shall be given, but the dwelling of the many remaining shall be in fire.
