1
The eighth, bright waters are the justice and uprightness of Hizqiyahu king of Yehudah and the good that came upon him.
2
Sanheriv was stirred to destroy, and his wrath disturbed him, together with the multitude of nations with him.
3
When Hizqiyahu heard what the Ashshuriy king purposed—to seize him, destroy his people, the two and a half tribes remaining, and overthrow Tziyon—| Hizqiyahu trusted in his works, hoped in his Righteousness, and spoke with the Mighty One.
4
He said: See, Sanheriv prepares to destroy us, and he shall boast and exalt himself when he destroys Tziyon.
5
The Mighty One heard him, for Hizqiyahu was wise, and looked upon his petition because he was righteous.
6
Then the Mighty One commanded Rama’el, His messenger who speaks with you.
7
I went out and destroyed their multitude—| their chief ones alone numbered one hundred eighty-five thousand, and each had an assembly of like number.
8
At that time I burned their bodies within but preserved their garments and armor without, so the wonders of the Mighty One might appear more greatly and His Name be spoken throughout the earth.
9
Tziyon was delivered, Yerushalayim rescued, and Yisra’el freed from distress.
10
All in the Set-Apart Land rejoiced, and the Name of the Mighty One was praised.
11
These are the bright waters you saw.
