1
And the sons of Yisra’el, all the congregation, came into the wilderness of Tzin in the first month, and the people remained at Qadesh. And Miryam died there and was buried there.
2
And there was no water for the congregation, and they gathered themselves against Mosheh and against Aharon.
3
And the people contended with Mosheh and spoke, saying, “Who would have given that we had perished when our brothers perished before Yahuah!
4
And why have you brought the assembly of Yahuah into this wilderness, that we and our livestock should die there?
5
And why have you caused us to go up from Mitzrayim to bring us into this evil place? It is not a place of seed, or figs, or vines, or pomegranates, and there is no water to drink.”
6
And Mosheh and Aharon went from before the face of the assembly to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and fell upon their faces. And the glory of Yahuah appeared to them.
7
And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh, saying,
8
“Take the staff, and gather the congregation together, you and Aharon your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, and it shall give its water. And you shall bring water out for them from the rock and give drink to the congregation and to their livestock.”
9
And Mosheh took the staff from before Yahuah, according to what He had commanded him.
10
And Mosheh and Aharon gathered the assembly before the face of the rock, and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels! From this rock shall we bring water out for you?”
11
And Mosheh lifted his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice, and abundant water came out, and the congregation and their livestock drank.
12
And Yahuah said to Mosheh and to Aharon, “Because you did not believe in Me, to set Me apart before the eyes of the sons of Yisra’el, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them.”
13
These are the waters of Merivah, where the sons of Yisra’el contended with Yahuah, and He was set apart among them.
14
And Mosheh sent messengers from Qadesh to the king of Edom: “Thus says your brother Yisra’el: You know all the hardship that has found us,
15
how our fathers went down to Mitzrayim, and we dwelt in Mitzrayim many days, and the Mitzrim did evil to us and to our fathers.
16
And we cried out to Yahuah, and He heard our voice and sent a messenger and brought us out from Mitzrayim. And see, we are at Qadesh, a city at the edge of your border.
17
Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or vineyard, nor will we drink water from a well. By the king’s road we will go; we will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left until we have passed through your border.”
18
And Edom said to him, “You shall not pass through me, lest I come out against you with the sword.”
19
And the sons of Yisra’el said to him, “By the highway we will go up, and if I and my livestock drink from your water, then I will give its price. Only let me pass through on my feet; there is nothing more.”
20
And he said, “You shall not pass through.” And Edom came out against him with many people and with a strong hand.
21
And Edom refused to allow Yisra’el to pass through his border, so Yisra’el turned away from him.
22
And they journeyed from Qadesh, and the sons of Yisra’el, all the congregation, came to Mount Hor.
23
And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon at Mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying,
24
“Aharon shall be gathered to his people, for he shall not enter into the land that I have given to the sons of Yisra’el, because you rebelled against My mouth at the waters of Merivah.
25
Take Aharon and Elazar his son, and cause them to go up Mount Hor.
26
And strip Aharon of his garments and clothe Elazar his son with them. And Aharon shall be gathered and shall die there.”
27
And Mosheh did according to what Yahuah commanded, and they went up Mount Hor before the eyes of all the congregation.
28
And Mosheh stripped Aharon of his garments and clothed Elazar his son with them. And Aharon died there upon the top of the mountain. And Mosheh and Elazar came down from the mountain.
29
And all the congregation saw that Aharon had died, and all the house of Yisra’el wept for Aharon thirty days.
