1
And the daughters of Tzelofchad son of Chefer, son of Gilad, son of Makhir, son of Menasheh, from the families of Menasheh son of Yosef, drew near. And these were the names of his daughters: Machlah, No’ah, Choglah, Milkah, and Tirtzah.
2
And they stood before Mosheh, and before Elazar the kohen, and before the rulers and all the congregation, at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, saying,
3
“Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the midst of the congregation that gathered themselves against Yahuah in the congregation of Qorach, but in his own sin he died, and he had no sons.
4
Why should the name of our father be taken away from the midst of his family because he had no son? Give us a possession in the midst of the brothers of our father.”
5
And Mosheh brought their judgment near before Yahuah.
6
And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh, saying,
7
“The daughters of Tzelofchad speak rightly. Giving, you shall surely give them a possession of inheritance in the midst of the brothers of their father, and you shall cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them.
8
And to the sons of Yisra’el you shall speak, saying: If an ish dies and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter.
9
And if he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers.
10
And if he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to the brothers of his father.
11
And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his nearest relative from his family, and he shall possess it. And it shall be for the sons of Yisra’el as a statute of judgment, according to what Yahuah commanded Mosheh.”
12
And Yahuah said to Mosheh, “Go up into this mountain of Avarim and see the land that I have given to the sons of Yisra’el.
13
And when you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as Aharon your brother was gathered,
14
because you rebelled against My mouth in the wilderness of Tzin, in the strife of the congregation, to set Me apart at the waters before their eyes.” These are the waters of Merivat-Qadesh in the wilderness of Tzin.
15
And Mosheh spoke to Yahuah, saying,
16
“Let Yahuah, Elohim of the ruach of all flesh, appoint an ish over the congregation,
17
who shall go out before their face and who shall come in before their face, and who shall bring them out and who shall bring them in, so that the congregation of Yahuah shall not be like sheep that have no shepherd.”
18
And Yahuah said to Mosheh, “Take Yehoshua son of Nun, an ish in whom is Ruach, and lay your hand upon him.
19
And cause him to stand before Elazar the kohen and before all the congregation, and command him before their eyes.
20
And you shall place some of your majesty upon him, so that all the congregation of the sons of Yisra’el may listen.
21
And he shall stand before Elazar the kohen, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before Yahuah. At his mouth they shall go out, and at his mouth they shall come in, he and all the sons of Yisra’el with him, even all the congregation.”
22
And Mosheh did according to what Yahuah commanded him. And he took Yehoshua and caused him to stand before Elazar the kohen and before all the congregation.
23
And he laid his hands upon him and commanded him, according to what Yahuah had spoken by the hand of Mosheh.
