1
And Yahuah said to Avram, “Go for yourself from your land, and from your kindred, and from the house of your father, to the land that I will show you.
2
And I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great; and you shall become a blessing.
3
And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who treats you lightly I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
4
And Avram went according to what Yahuah had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Avram was seventy-five years old when he went out from Charan.
5
And Avram took Sarai his ishah, and Lot son of his brother, and all the substance they had gathered, and the persons they had acquired in Charan. And they went out to go toward the land of Kena’an, and they came into the land of Kena’an.
6
And Avram passed through the land as far as the place of Shekhem, as far as the oak of Moreh. And the Kena’ani was then in the land.
7
And Yahuah appeared to Avram and said, “To your seed I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to Yahuah, who had appeared to him.
8
And he moved from there toward the mountain east of Beit-El and stretched out his tent, with Beit-El toward the west and Ai toward the east. And there he built an altar to Yahuah and called upon the name of Yahuah.
9
And Avram journeyed onward, continuing toward the Negev.
10
And there was famine in the land. And Avram went down to Mitzrayim to sojourn there, because the famine was severe in the land.
11
And it came to pass, when he drew near to enter Mitzrayim, that he said to Sarai his ishah, “See now, I know that you are a woman beautiful in appearance.
12
And it shall be, when the Mitzrim see you, that they will say, ‘This is his ishah.’ Then they will kill me, but they will keep you alive.
13
Say, please, that you are my sister, so that it may go well with me because of you, and my life may be preserved because of you.”
14
And it came to pass, when Avram entered Mitzrayim, that the Mitzrim saw the woman, that she was exceedingly beautiful.
15
And the princes of Pharaoh saw her and praised her before Pharaoh, and the woman was taken into the house of Pharaoh.
16
And he dealt well with Avram because of her; and he had sheep and cattle, male donkeys, male servants and female servants, female donkeys, and camels.
17
And Yahuah struck Pharaoh and his house with great afflictions because of Sarai, the ishah of Avram.
18
And Pharaoh called Avram and said, “What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your ishah?
19
Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her for myself as an ishah? And now—see—your ishah. Take her and go.”
20
And Pharaoh commanded men concerning him, and they sent him away, with his ishah and all that he had.
