1
And Avram went up from Mitzrayim, he and his ishah and all that he had, and Lot with him, toward the Negev.
2
And Avram was exceedingly rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.
3
And he went according to his journeys from the Negev as far as Beit-El, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beit-El and Ai,
4
to the place of the altar that he had made there at the first. And there Avram called upon the name of Yahuah.
5
And Lot also, who went with Avram, had flocks, herds, and tents.
6
And the land could not bear them dwelling together, because their possessions were great, and they were not able to dwell together.
7
And there was strife between the herdsmen of Avram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. And the Kena’ani and the Perizzi were then dwelling in the land.
8
And Avram said to Lot, “Please, let there be no strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, because we are brothers.
9
Is not all the land before you? Please separate yourself from me. If you go to the left, then I will go to the right; and if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.”
10
And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of the Yarden, that all of it was well-watered, before Yahuah brought ruin upon Sedom and Amorah, like the Garden of Yahuah, like the land of Mitzrayim as you come toward Tzoar.
11
And Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Yarden, and Lot journeyed eastward. And they separated, each one from his brother.
12
Avram dwelt in the land of Kena’an, and Lot dwelt among the cities of the plain, and stretched out his tents as far as Sedom.
13
And the men of Sedom were exceedingly evil and sinful against Yahuah.
14
And Yahuah said to Avram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift your eyes now, and look from the place where you are—northward and southward and eastward and westward.
15
For all the land that you see, I will give to you and to your seed perpetually.
16
And I will make your seed like the dust of the earth, so that if a man is able to number the dust of the earth, then your seed also may be numbered.
17
Rise, walk through the land, through its length and through its breadth, because I will give it to you.”
18
And Avram moved his tent and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Chevron. And there he built an altar to Yahuah.
