1
After these things, the word of Yahuah came to Avram in a vision, saying, “Do not fear, Avram. I am your shield; your reward shall be exceedingly great.”
2
And Avram said, “Adonai Yahuah, what will You give me, seeing that I continue without a child, and the one possessing my house is Eliezer of Damesheq?”
3
And Avram said, “See, You have given me no seed, and see: one born within my house is inheriting from me.”
4
And see, the word of Yahuah came to him, saying, “This one shall not inherit from you; but one who comes forth from your own body shall inherit from you.”
5
And He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward the heavens and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” And He said to him, “So shall your seed be.”
6
And he trusted in Yahuah, and He accounted it to him as righteousness.
7
And He said to him, “I am Yahuah, who brought you out from Ur of the Kasdim, to give you this land to inherit it.”
8
And he said, “Adonai Yahuah, by what shall I know that I will inherit it?”
9
And He said to him, “Take for Me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”
10
And he took all these for Him, and divided them through the middle, and placed each half opposite its companion; but the birds he did not divide.
11
And the birds of prey descended upon the carcasses, and Avram drove them away.
12
And as the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Avram; and see, a terror of great darkness fell upon him.
13
And He said to Avram, “Know with certainty that your seed shall be a sojourner in a land that is not theirs, and they shall serve them, and they shall afflict them four hundred years.
14
And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; and afterward they shall go out with great possessions.
15
And you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age.
16
And in the fourth generation they shall return here, because the iniquity of the Emori is not yet complete.”
17
And it came to pass, when the sun had gone down and darkness had come, that see: a smoking furnace and a torch of fire passed between those divided pieces.
18
On that day Yahuah cut a covenant with Avram, saying, “To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Mitzrayim to the great river, the river Perath:
19
the Qeni, the Qenizzi, the Qadmoni,
20
the Chitti, the Perizzi, the Refaim,
21
the Emori, the Kena’ani, the Girgashi, and the Yevusi.”
