1
And Yahuah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, while he was sitting at the entrance of the tent in the heat of the day.
2
And he lifted his eyes and looked, and see: three men were standing near him. And when he saw them, he ran from the entrance of the tent to meet them, and bowed himself toward the ground.
3
And he said, “Adonai, if now I have found favor in Your eyes, please do not pass away from Your servant.
4
Please let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves beneath the tree.
5
And I will bring a morsel of bread, and you shall strengthen your hearts; afterward you may pass on, because for this reason you have passed by your servant.” And they said, “Do as you have spoken.”
6
And Avraham hurried into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quickly, prepare three measures of fine flour, knead it, and make cakes.”
7
And Avraham ran to the herd and took a young calf, tender and good, and gave it to the young man, and he hurried to prepare it.
8
And he took curds and milk, and the calf that he had prepared, and set them before them. And he stood beside them beneath the tree while they ate.
9
And they said to him, “Where is Sarah your ishah?” And he said, “See, in the tent.”
10
And He said, “Returning, I will return to you at the time of life; and see, Sarah your ishah shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the entrance of the tent, which was behind him.
11
And Avraham and Sarah were old, advanced in days; the way of women had ceased for Sarah.
12
And Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have become worn, shall I have pleasure, and my adon also being old?”
13
And Yahuah said to Avraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I truly bring forth, though I am old?’
14
Is anything too difficult for Yahuah? At the appointed time I will return to you, at the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”
15
And Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” because she was afraid. And He said, “No, but you did laugh.”
16
And the men rose from there and looked toward Sedom, and Avraham went with them to send them on their way.
17
And Yahuah said, “Shall I conceal from Avraham what I am doing,
18
seeing that Avraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
19
For I have known him, so that he may command his sons and his house after him, and they shall guard the way of Yahuah, to do righteousness and justice, so that Yahuah may bring upon Avraham what He has spoken concerning him.”
20
And Yahuah said, “The outcry of Sedom and Amorah is great, and their sin is exceedingly heavy.
21
I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to Me; and if not, I will know.”
22
And the men turned from there and went toward Sedom, but Avraham still stood before Yahuah.
23
And Avraham drew near and said, “Will You indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked?
24
Perhaps there are fifty righteous within the city. Will You indeed sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous who are within it?
25
Far be it from You to do according to this thing—to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked. Far be it from You. Shall the Judge of all the earth not do justice?”
26
And Yahuah said, “If I find in Sedom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the whole place for their sake.”
27
And Avraham answered and said, “See now, I have undertaken to speak to Adonai, though I am dust and ashes.
28
Perhaps five are lacking from the fifty righteous. Will You bring ruin upon the whole city for five?” And He said, “I will not bring ruin upon it if I find forty-five there.”
29
And he continued still to speak to Him and said, “Perhaps forty are found there.” And He said, “I will not do it for the sake of forty.”
30
And he said, “Please, let Adonai not burn with anger, and I will speak. Perhaps thirty are found there.” And He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”
31
And he said, “See now, I have undertaken to speak to Adonai. Perhaps twenty are found there.” And He said, “I will not bring ruin upon it for the sake of twenty.”
32
And he said, “Please, let Adonai not burn with anger, and I will speak only this once. Perhaps ten are found there.” And He said, “I will not bring ruin upon it for the sake of ten.”
33
And Yahuah departed when He had finished speaking with Avraham, and Avraham returned to his place.
