1
And it came to pass after these things that Elohim tested Avraham, and He said to him, “Avraham.” And he said, “See, I am here.”
2
And He said, “Take now your son, your only one, whom you love, Yitzchaq, and go for yourself to the land of Moriyah. And offer him there as an ascending offering upon one of the mountains that I will tell you.”
3
And Avraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Yitzchaq his son. And he split wood for the ascending offering, and rose and went toward the place that Elohim had told him.
4
On the third day Avraham lifted his eyes and saw the place from afar.
5
And Avraham said to his young men, “Remain here with the donkey, and I and the young man will go there. And we will bow ourselves, and we will return to you.”
6
And Avraham took the wood of the ascending offering and placed it upon Yitzchaq his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. And the two of them went together.
7
And Yitzchaq spoke to Avraham his father and said, “My father.” And he said, “See, I am here, my son.” And he said, “See the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the ascending offering?”
8
And Avraham said, “Elohim will see to the lamb for Himself, my son.” And the two of them went together.
9
And they came to the place that Elohim had told him. And Avraham built the altar there, and arranged the wood, and bound Yitzchaq his son, and placed him upon the altar above the wood.
10
And Avraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son.
11
And the messenger of Yahuah called to him from the heavens and said, “Avraham, Avraham.” And he said, “See, I am here.”
12
And he said, “Do not stretch out your hand against the young man, and do not do anything to him. For now I know that you fear Elohim, because you have not withheld your son, your only one, from Me.”
13
And Avraham lifted his eyes and looked, and see: behind him was a ram caught in the thicket by its horns. And Avraham went and took the ram and offered it as an ascending offering in place of his son.
14
And Avraham called the name of that place Yahuah Yir’eh. As it is said to this day, “On the mountain of Yahuah it shall be seen.”
15
And the messenger of Yahuah called to Avraham from the heavens a second time,
16
and said, “By Myself I have sworn, declares Yahuah: because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only one,
17
blessing, I will bless you; and multiplying, I will multiply your seed like the stars of the heavens and like the sand that is upon the shore of the sea. And your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies.
18
And in your seed all the nations of the earth shall bless themselves, because you listened to My voice.”
19
And Avraham returned to his young men, and they rose and went together to Be’er-Sheva. And Avraham dwelt at Be’er-Sheva.
20
And it came to pass after these things that it was told to Avraham, saying, “See, Milkah also has brought forth sons to Nachor your brother:
21
Utz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Qemuel the father of Aram,
22
and Kesed, Chazo, Pildash, Yidlaf, and Betuel.”
23
And Betuel brought forth Rivqah. These eight Milkah brought forth to Nachor, the brother of Avraham.
24
And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, also brought forth Tevach, Gacham, Tachash, and Maakhah.
