1
And it came to pass at the end of two full years that Pharaoh dreamed, and see: he was standing by the river.
2
And see: from the river came up seven cows, beautiful in appearance and fat in flesh, and they grazed in the reeds.
3
And see: seven other cows came up after them from the river, evil in appearance and thin in flesh, and stood beside the other cows upon the bank of the river.
4
And the cows evil in appearance and thin in flesh ate the seven cows beautiful in appearance and fat. And Pharaoh awoke.
5
And he slept and dreamed a second time. And see: seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, fat and good.
6
And see: seven heads, thin and scorched by the east wind, sprang up after them.
7
And the thin heads swallowed the seven fat and full heads. And Pharaoh awoke, and see: it was a dream.
8
And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled. And he sent and called all the diviners of Mitzrayim and all its wise men. And Pharaoh recounted his dreams to them, but there was no one who could interpret them for Pharaoh.
9
And the chief of the cupbearers spoke to Pharaoh, saying, “I remember my sins this day.
10
Pharaoh became angry with his servants and placed me in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, me and the chief of the bakers.
11
And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; each one according to the interpretation of his dream we dreamed.
12
And there was with us there a young Ivri, a servant of the captain of the guard. And we recounted to him, and he interpreted our dreams for us; each one according to his dream he interpreted.
13
And it came to pass, just as he interpreted to us, so it happened: me he restored to my position, and him he hanged.”
14
And Pharaoh sent and called Yosef, and they hurried him from the pit. And he shaved, and changed his garments, and came to Pharaoh.
15
And Pharaoh said to Yosef, “I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one to interpret it. And I have heard concerning you, saying that you hear a dream to interpret it.”
16
And Yosef answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not from me. Elohim will answer with peace for Pharaoh.”
17
And Pharaoh spoke to Yosef: “In my dream, see, I was standing upon the bank of the river.
18
And see: from the river came up seven cows, fat in flesh and beautiful in form, and they grazed in the reeds.
19
And see: seven other cows came up after them, poor and exceedingly evil in form and thin in flesh. I had not seen such as these in all the land of Mitzrayim for evil appearance.
20
And the thin and evil cows ate the first seven fat cows.
21
And they entered into their inward parts, yet it could not be known that they had entered into them, for their appearance remained evil as at the beginning. And I awoke.
22
And I saw in my dream, and see: seven heads came up upon one stalk, full and good.
23
And see: seven heads, withered, thin, and scorched by the east wind, sprang up after them.
24
And the thin heads swallowed the seven good heads. And I told this to the diviners, but there was no one who could make it known to me.”
25
And Yosef said to Pharaoh, “The dream of Pharaoh is one. What Elohim is doing, He has declared to Pharaoh.
26
The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good heads are seven years. The dream is one.
27
And the seven thin and evil cows that came up after them are seven years, and the seven empty heads scorched by the east wind shall be seven years of famine.
28
This is the word that I spoke to Pharaoh: what Elohim is doing, He has shown to Pharaoh.
29
See: seven years are coming of great abundance throughout all the land of Mitzrayim.
30
And after them shall arise seven years of famine, and all the abundance in the land of Mitzrayim shall be forgotten, and the famine shall consume the land.
31
And the abundance shall not be known in the land because of the famine afterward, for it shall be exceedingly severe.
32
And because the dream was repeated to Pharaoh twice, the matter is established by Elohim, and Elohim is hastening to do it.
33
And now, let Pharaoh see an ish discerning and wise, and set him over the land of Mitzrayim.
34
Let Pharaoh act, and appoint overseers over the land, and take a fifth from the land of Mitzrayim during the seven years of abundance.
35
And let them gather all the food of these coming good years, and store grain beneath the hand of Pharaoh as food in the cities, and guard it.
36
And the food shall be held as a reserve for the land for the seven years of famine that shall be in the land of Mitzrayim, so that the land is not cut off by the famine.”
37
And the matter was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants.
38
And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find one like this, an ish in whom is the Ruach of Elohim?”
39
And Pharaoh said to Yosef, “After Elohim has made all this known to you, there is no one discerning and wise like you.
40
You shall be over my house, and according to your mouth all my people shall be ordered. Only in the throne will I be greater than you.”
41
And Pharaoh said to Yosef, “See, I have set you over all the land of Mitzrayim.”
42
And Pharaoh removed his signet ring from his hand and placed it upon the hand of Yosef, and clothed him in garments of fine linen, and placed a chain of gold around his neck.
43
And he caused him to ride in the second chariot that belonged to him, and they called before him, “Bow the knee!” And he set him over all the land of Mitzrayim.
44
And Pharaoh said to Yosef, “I am Pharaoh, but apart from you no ish shall lift his hand or his foot in all the land of Mitzrayim.”
45
And Pharaoh called the name of Yosef Tzafenat-Paneach, and gave him Asenat daughter of Poti-Fera, kohen of On, as an ishah. And Yosef went out over the land of Mitzrayim.
46
And Yosef was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Mitzrayim. And Yosef went out from before Pharaoh and passed through all the land of Mitzrayim.
47
And in the seven years of abundance the land produced by handfuls.
48
And he gathered all the food of the seven years that were in the land of Mitzrayim and placed the food in the cities. The food of the field surrounding each city he placed within it.
49
And Yosef gathered grain like the sand of the sea, exceedingly much, until he ceased counting it, because it was beyond counting.
50
And to Yosef were born two sons before the year of famine came, whom Asenat daughter of Poti-Fera, kohen of On, brought forth to him.
51
And Yosef called the name of the firstborn Menasheh, for he said, “Elohim has caused me to forget all my hardship and all the house of my father.”
52
And the name of the second he called Efrayim, for he said, “Elohim has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”
53
And the seven years of abundance that were in the land of Mitzrayim came to an end.
54
And the seven years of famine began to come, according to what Yosef had said. And there was famine in all the lands, but throughout all the land of Mitzrayim there was bread.
55
And when all the land of Mitzrayim hungered, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread. And Pharaoh said to all Mitzrayim, “Go to Yosef. Whatever he says to you, do.”
56
And the famine was over all the face of the land. And Yosef opened all that was stored among them and sold to the Mitzrim. And the famine became strong in the land of Mitzrayim.
57
And all the earth came to Mitzrayim to Yosef to buy grain, because the famine had become strong throughout all the earth.
