1
And when he had completed all his words in the hearing of the people, he entered Kefar-Nachum.
2
And the servant of a certain centurion, who was highly valued by him, was sick and near death.
3
And when he heard concerning Yahushua, he sent to him elders of the Yehudim, asking him to come and restore his servant.
4
And when they came to Yahushua, they petitioned him earnestly, saying: “He is worthy that you should do this for him,
5
for he loves our people, and he himself built the synagogue for us.”
6
And Yahushua went with them. And when he was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying: “Master, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy that you should come under my roof.
7
Therefore I did not consider myself worthy to come to you. But speak the word, and let my servant be restored.
8
For I also am an ish placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one: ‘Go,’ and he goes. And to another: ‘Come,’ and he comes. And to my servant: ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
9
And when Yahushua heard these things, he marveled at him. And turning to the crowd following him, he said: “I tell you, not even in Yisra’el have I found such trust.”
10
And those who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant restored.
11
And it happened soon afterward that he went to a city called Na’in. And his talmidim went with him, and a great crowd.
12
And as he drew near to the gate of the city, see— one who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother. And she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her.
13
And when the Master saw her, he had compassion upon her and said to her: “Do not weep.”
14
And he came near and touched the bier, and those carrying it stood still. And he said: “Young ish, I tell you— rise.”
15
And the dead one sat up and began to speak. And Yahushua gave him to his mother.
16
And fear seized them all, and they glorified Elohim, saying: “A great prophet has risen among us,” and: “Elohim has visited His people.”
17
And this word concerning him went out through all Yehudah and all the surrounding region.
18
And the talmidim of Yochanan reported to him concerning all these things.
19
And calling two of his talmidim, Yochanan sent them to the Master, saying: “Are you the one who is coming, or are we to wait for another?”
20
And when the men came to him, they said: “Yochanan the Immerser sent us to you, saying: ‘Are you the one who is coming, or are we to wait for another?’”
21
In that hour he restored many from sicknesses, and afflictions, and evil ruachot, and to many blind people he granted sight.
22
And answering, he said to them: “Go. Report to Yochanan what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, those with tzara’at are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are receiving the good message.
23
And blessed is whoever does not stumble because of me.”
24
And when the messengers of Yochanan had departed, he began to speak to the crowds concerning Yochanan: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
25
But what did you go out to see? An ish clothed in soft garments? See— those wearing splendid clothing and living in luxury are in royal houses.
26
But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
27
This is the one concerning whom it is written: ‘See— I send My messenger before your face, who shall prepare your way before you.’
28
I tell you: among those born of women there is no one greater than Yochanan. Yet the least in the Kingdom of Elohim is greater than he.”
29
And all the people who heard, even the tax collectors, acknowledged the Righteousness of Elohim, having been immersed with the immersion of Yochanan.
30
But the Perushim and those learned in Torah rejected the purpose of Elohim for themselves, not having been immersed by him.
31
“To what then shall I compare the Adam of this generation? And what are they like?
32
They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying: ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance. We sang a lament, and you did not weep.’
33
For Yochanan the Immerser has come neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say: ‘He has an unclean ruach.’
34
The Son of Adam has come eating and drinking, and you say: ‘See— a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’
35
Yet Wisdom is shown righteous by all her children.”
36
And one of the Perushim asked him to eat with him. And entering the house of the Perush, Yahushua reclined at the table.
37
And see— an ishah in the city, who was known for sinful conduct, when she learned that he was reclining in the house of the Perush, brought an alabaster vessel of fragrant oil.
38
And standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. And she wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the fragrant oil.
39
And when the Perush who had invited him saw this, he said within himself: “If this ish were a prophet, he would know who and what kind of ishah is touching him— that she is a sinner.”
40
And Yahushua answered and said to him: “Shim’on, I have something to say to you.” And he said: “Teacher, speak.”
41
“A certain creditor had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
42
And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely released the debt of both. Which of them, then, shall love him more?”
43
Shim’on answered and said: “I suppose the one to whom he released more.” And Yahushua said to him: “You judged rightly.”
44
And turning toward the ishah, he said to Shim’on: “Do you see this ishah? I entered your house. You gave me no water for my feet. But she wet my feet with tears and wiped them with her hair.
45
You gave me no kiss. But from the time I entered, she has not ceased kissing my feet.
46
You did not anoint my head with oil. But she anointed my feet with fragrant oil.
47
Because of this, I tell you: her many sins have been forgiven, for she loved much. But the one to whom little is forgiven loves little.”
48
And he said to her: “Your sins are forgiven.”
49
And those reclining with him began saying among themselves: “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50
And he said to the ishah: “Your trust has delivered you. Go in shalom.”
