1
And looking up, he saw the rich casting their gifts into the treasury.
2
And he saw a certain poor widow casting in there two small copper coins.
3
And he said: “Truly I tell you: this poor widow cast in more than all of them.
4
For all these cast into the gifts from their abundance. But she, from her poverty, cast in all the livelihood she had.”
5
And while some were speaking concerning the House— how it had been adorned with beautiful stones and dedicated offerings— he said:
6
“As for these things which you see, days shall come in which there shall not be left stone upon stone that shall not be thrown down.”
7
And they questioned him, saying: “Teacher, when then shall these things be? And what shall be the sign when these things are about to happen?”
8
And he said: “See that you are not led astray. For many shall come in my name, saying: ‘I am he,’ and: ‘The appointed time has drawn near.’ Do not go after them.
9
And when you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be terrified. For these things must happen first, but the end does not come immediately.”
10
Then he said to them: “Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
11
And there shall be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there shall be terrors and great signs from the heavens.
12
But before all these things, they shall lay their hands upon you and persecute you, handing you over to synagogues and prisons, and bringing you before kings and governors because of my name.
13
It shall turn out for you as a testimony.
14
Therefore place it in your hearts not to prepare beforehand how you shall defend yourselves.
15
For I shall give you a mouth and wisdom which all those opposing you shall not be able to resist or contradict.
16
And you shall be handed over even by parents, and brothers, and relatives, and friends. And they shall put some of you to death.
17
And you shall be hated by all because of my name.
18
Yet not a hair from your head shall perish.
19
By your endurance you shall preserve your lives.
20
But when you see Yerushalayim surrounded by armies, then know that her desolation has drawn near.
21
Then those who are in Yehudah must flee to the mountains. And those in the midst of her must depart. And those in the countryside must not enter her.
22
For these are days of Judgment, for all the things written to be fulfilled.
23
But woe to those who are pregnant and to those nursing in those days. For there shall be great distress upon the land and wrath against this people.
24
And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be carried captive into all the nations. And Yerushalayim shall be trampled by the nations until the appointed times of the nations are fulfilled.
25
And there shall be signs in sun, and moon, and stars, and upon the earth distress among nations in perplexity at the roaring of sea and waves,
26
Adam fainting from fear and expectation of the things coming upon the inhabited land. For the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.
27
And then they shall see the Son of Adam coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28
But when these things begin to happen, stand upright and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
29
And he spoke a parable to them: “See the fig tree and all the trees.
30
When they already put forth leaves, you see and know for yourselves that summer is already near.
31
So also you, when you see these things happening, know that the Kingdom of Elohim is near.
32
Truly I tell you: this generation shall certainly not pass away until all things happen.
33
The heavens and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall certainly not pass away.
34
But guard yourselves, lest your hearts become weighed down with excess, drunkenness, and the worries of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a snare.
35
For it shall come upon all those dwelling upon the face of the whole earth.
36
But remain awake at every appointed time, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to happen, and to stand before the Son of Adam.”
37
And during the days he was teaching in the House. But at night he went out and lodged on the mountain called Olives.
38
And all the people came to him early in the morning in the House to hear him.
