1
Now after Yahushua was born in Beit-Lechem of Yehudah, in the days of Herod the king, see— wise men from the east came to Yerushalayim,
2
saying: “Where is the one who has been born King of the Yehudim? For we saw his star when it rose, and we have come to bow ourselves before him.”
3
And when King Herod heard this, he was troubled, and all Yerushalayim with him.
4
And gathering together all the chief kohenim and the scribes of the people, he demanded from them where the Anointed was to be born.
5
And they said to him: “In Beit-Lechem of Yehudah, for thus it is written through the prophet:
6
‘And you, Beit-Lechem, land of Yehudah, are by no means least among the rulers of Yehudah. For from you shall come forth a ruler who shall shepherd My People Yisra’el.’”
7
Then Herod secretly called the wise men and determined from them the exact time when the star had appeared.
8
And he sent them to Beit-Lechem and said: “Go and search carefully for the child. And when you find him, bring word back to me, so that I also may come and bow myself before him.”
9
And after hearing the king, they went. And see— the star which they had seen when it rose went before them until it came and stood over the place where the child was.
10
And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
11
And entering the house, they saw the child with Miryam his mother. And falling down, they bowed themselves before him. Then opening their treasures, they presented to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12
And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own land by another road.
13
And after they departed, see— a messenger of Yahuah appeared to Yoseph in a dream, saying: “Rise. Take the child and his mother and flee to Mitsrayim. Remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to seek the child to destroy him.”
14
And he arose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Mitsrayim.
15
And he remained there until the death of Herod, so that what was spoken by Yahuah through the prophet might be fulfilled: “Out of Mitsrayim I called My Son.”
16
Then Herod, when he saw that he had been deceived by the wise men, became exceedingly enraged. And he sent men and killed all the male children in Beit-Lechem and throughout all its surrounding territory, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.
17
Then was fulfilled what was spoken through Yirmeyahu the prophet:
18
“A voice was heard in Ramah— weeping and great mourning. Rachel weeping for her children, and she refused to be comforted, because they were no more.”
19
But after Herod died, see— a messenger of Yahuah appeared in a dream to Yoseph in Mitsrayim,
20
saying: “Rise. Take the child and his mother and go into the land of Yisra’el, for those who sought the life of the child are dead.”
21
And he arose and took the child and his mother and entered the land of Yisra’el.
22
But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Yehudah in place of Herod his father, he was afraid to go there. And being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galil.
23
And he came and dwelt in a city called Natzeret, so that what was spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled: “He shall be called a Natzri.”
