1
At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report about Yahushua.
2
And he said to his servants: “This is Yochanan the Immerser. He has been raised from the dead, and because of this these powers are working through him.”
3
For Herod had seized Yochanan, bound him, and placed him in prison because of Herodias, the ishah of Philippos his brother.
4
For Yochanan had been saying to him: “It is not permitted for you to have her.”
5
And though Herod desired to kill him, he feared the crowd, because they regarded Yochanan as a prophet.
6
But when Herod’s birthday celebration came, the daughter of Herodias danced in their midst and pleased Herod.
7
Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.
8
And being instructed by her mother, she said: “Give me here, upon a platter, the head of Yochanan the Immerser.”
9
And the king was grieved. But because of the oaths and those reclining with him, he commanded that it be given.
10
And he sent and had Yochanan beheaded in the prison.
11
And his head was brought upon a platter and given to the girl, and she carried it to her mother.
12
And his talmidim came, took the body, and buried it. And they went and reported it to Yahushua.
13
And when Yahushua heard, he withdrew from there by boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds heard, they followed him on foot from the cities.
14
And coming out, he saw a great crowd, and he was moved with compassion for them and healed their sick.
15
And when evening came, his talmidim came to him, saying: “The place is deserted, and the hour has already passed. Send the crowds away so they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.”
16
But Yahushua said to them: “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
17
And they said to him: “We have nothing here except five loaves and two fish.”
18
And he said: “Bring them here to me.”
19
And he commanded the crowds to recline upon the grass. And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up toward the heavens and blessed. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the talmidim, and the talmidim gave them to the crowds.
20
And they all ate and were satisfied. And they gathered what remained of the broken pieces— twelve full baskets.
21
And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
22
And immediately Yahushua compelled the talmidim to enter the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds.
23
And after dismissing the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. And when evening came, he was there alone.
24
But the boat was already many stadia from the land, being beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them.
25
And in the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them, walking upon the sea.
26
And when the talmidim saw him walking upon the sea, they were terrified, saying: “It is an apparition.” And they cried out from fear.
27
But immediately Yahushua spoke to them, saying: “Take courage. It is I. Do not fear.”
28
And Kepha answered him and said: “Master, if it is you, command me to come to you upon the waters.”
29
And he said: “Come.” And Kepha went down from the boat and walked upon the waters toward Yahushua.
30
But seeing the strength of the wind, he became afraid. And beginning to sink, he cried out: “Master, save me.”
31
And immediately Yahushua stretched out his hand and seized him and said to him: “You of little trust, why did you doubt?”
32
And when they entered the boat, the wind ceased.
33
And those in the boat bowed themselves before him, saying: “Truly, you are the Son of Elohim.”
34
And after crossing over, they came into the land of Gennesar.
35
And when the men of that place recognized him, they sent word throughout all that surrounding region and brought to him all those who were sick.
36
And they petitioned him that they might only touch the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were restored.
