1
Then Yahushua spoke to the crowds and to his talmidim,
2
saying: “The scribes and the Perushim sit in the seat of Mosheh.
3
Therefore whatever they tell you that accords with what has been entrusted, do and guard. But do not do according to their works, for they speak and do not do.
4
For they bind heavy burdens and place them upon the shoulders of Adam, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with even a finger.
5
And all their works they do in order to be seen by Adam. They broaden their tefillin and lengthen the fringes of their garments.
6
And they love the place of honor at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
7
and greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by Adam.
8
But you— do not be called ‘Rabbi’, for one is your Teacher, and you are all brothers.
9
And do not call anyone upon the earth your Father as a title of spiritual rule, for one is your Father, the One in the heavens.
10
Neither be called masters, for one is your Master— the Anointed.
11
But the greatest among you shall be your servant.
12
And whoever exalts himself shall be humbled. And whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.
13
But woe to you, scribes and Perushim, hypocrites. For you shut the Kingdom of the heavens before Adam. For you yourselves do not enter, and those who are entering you do not permit to enter.
14
Woe to you, scribes and Perushim, hypocrites. For you consume the houses of widows and for appearance make long prayers. Because of this you shall receive greater Judgment.
15
Woe to you, scribes and Perushim, hypocrites. For you travel sea and dry land to make one convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of Gei-Hinnom as yourselves.
16
Woe to you, blind guides, who say: ‘Whoever swears by the House, it is nothing. But whoever swears by the gold of the House is bound.’
17
Fools and blind ones. For which is greater— the gold, or the House that sets apart the gold?
18
And you say: ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing. But whoever swears by the offering upon it is bound.’
19
Blind ones. For which is greater— the offering, or the altar that sets apart the offering?
20
Therefore the one who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything upon it.
21
And the one who swears by the House swears by it and by the One who dwells there.
22
And the one who swears by the heavens swears by the Throne of Elohim and by the One who sits upon it.
23
Woe to you, scribes and Perushim, hypocrites. For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, but you have neglected the weightier matters of the Torah— Judgment, compassion, and faithfulness. These you ought to have done without neglecting the others.
24
Blind guides, straining out the gnat but swallowing the camel.
25
Woe to you, scribes and Perushim, hypocrites. For you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside they are full of robbery and self-indulgence.
26
Blind Perushi. First cleanse the inside of the cup, so that the outside may also become clean.
27
Woe to you, scribes and Perushim, hypocrites. For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead bones and every uncleanness.
28
So also you— outwardly you appear righteous to Adam, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
29
Woe to you, scribes and Perushim, hypocrites. For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the burial places of the righteous,
30
and say: ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have shared with them in the blood of the prophets.’
31
Therefore you testify against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.
32
Then fill up the measure of your fathers.
33
Serpents. Seed of vipers. How shall you escape the Judgment of Gei-Hinnom?
34
Therefore see— I send to you prophets, wise ones, and scribes. Some of them you shall kill and execute upon stakes. Some you shall beat in your synagogues and pursue from city to city,
35
so that upon you may come all righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of Hevel the righteous to the blood of Zekharyah son of Berekhiyah, whom you murdered between the Sanctuary and the altar.
36
Truly I tell you: all these things shall come upon this generation.
37
Yerushalayim, Yerushalayim, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you. How many times I desired to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her young beneath her wings, but you were unwilling.
38
See— your House is being left to you desolate.
39
For I tell you: you shall not see me from now until you say: ‘Blessed is the one who comes in the Name of Yahuah.’”
