1
Now there was a certain ish who was sick— Elazar, from Beit-Anyah, the village of Miryam and Martha her sister.
2
And this was the Miryam who anointed the Master with fragrant oil and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Elazar was sick.
3
Therefore the sisters sent to him, saying: “Master, see— the one whom you love is sick.”
4
And when Yahushua heard, he said: “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of Elohim, so that the Son of Elohim may be glorified through it.”
5
Now Yahushua loved Martha, and her sister, and Elazar.
6
Therefore when he heard that he was sick, he remained two days in the place where he was.
7
Then after this he said to the talmidim: “Let us go again into Yehudah.”
8
The talmidim said to him: “Rabbi, the Yehudim were just now seeking to stone you, and you are going there again?”
9
Yahushua answered: “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.
10
But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”
11
These things he said, and after this he said to them: “Our friend Elazar has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I may awaken him.”
12
Therefore the talmidim said to him: “Master, if he has fallen asleep, he shall recover.”
13
But Yahushua had spoken concerning his death, while they thought that he was speaking concerning the rest of sleep.
14
Then Yahushua said to them plainly: “Elazar has died.
15
And for your sake I rejoice that I was not there, so that you may trust. But let us go to him.”
16
Therefore Toma, the one called Twin, said to his fellow talmidim: “Let us also go, so that we may die with him.”
17
Therefore when Yahushua came, he found that Elazar had already been four days in the tomb.
18
Now Beit-Anyah was near Yerushalayim, about fifteen stadia away.
19
And many of the Yehudim had come to Martha and Miryam to comfort them concerning their brother.
20
Therefore Martha, when she heard that Yahushua was coming, went to meet him. But Miryam remained sitting in the house.
21
Martha therefore said to Yahushua: “Master, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.
22
But even now I know that whatever you ask from Elohim, Elohim shall give you.”
23
Yahushua said to her: “Your brother shall rise.”
24
Martha said to him: “I know that he shall rise in the resurrection on the last day.”
25
Yahushua said to her: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who trusts in me, even if he dies, shall live.
26
And everyone who lives and trusts in me shall certainly not die to the age. Do you trust this?”
27
She said to him: “Yes, Master. I have trusted that you are the Anointed, the Son of Elohim, the one coming into the world.”
28
And having said this, she went away and called Miryam her sister privately, saying: “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.”
29
And when she heard, she rose quickly and went to him.
30
Now Yahushua had not yet entered the village, but was still in the place where Martha had met him.
31
Therefore the Yehudim who were with her in the house and comforting her, when they saw Miryam rise quickly and go out, followed her, thinking that she was going to the tomb to weep there.
32
Therefore when Miryam came to where Yahushua was and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him: “Master, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
33
Therefore when Yahushua saw her weeping, and the Yehudim who had come with her weeping, he groaned deeply in ruach and was troubled.
34
And he said: “Where have you laid him?” They said to him: “Master, come and see.”
35
Yahushua wept.
36
Therefore the Yehudim were saying: “See how he loved him.”
37
But some of them said: “Was not this one, who opened the eyes of the blind ish, also able to keep this one from dying?”
38
Therefore Yahushua, again groaning deeply within himself, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it.
39
Yahushua said: “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the one who had died, said to him: “Master, by now there is a strong odor, for it is the fourth day.”
40
Yahushua said to her: “Did I not tell you that if you trust, you shall see the glory of Elohim?”
41
Therefore they took away the stone. And Yahushua lifted up his eyes and said: “Father, I thank You that You heard me.
42
And I knew that You always hear me, but because of the crowd standing around I said it, so that they may trust that You sent me.”
43
And having said these things, he cried out with a great voice: “Elazar, come out.”
44
And the one who had died came out, his feet and hands bound with burial cloths, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Yahushua said to them: “Untie him, and let him go.”
45
Therefore many of the Yehudim who had come to Miryam and had seen what Yahushua did trusted in him.
46
But some of them went away to the Perushim and reported to them the things Yahushua had done.
47
Therefore the chief kohenim and the Perushim gathered the council and said: “What are we doing? For this ish does many signs.
48
If we leave him this way, all shall trust in him, and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and our nation.”
49
But one of them, Qayafa, being great kohen that year, said to them: “You know nothing,
50
nor do you consider that it is better for you that one ish should die for the people than that the whole nation should perish.”
51
But he did not say this from himself. Rather, being great kohen that year, he prophesied that Yahushua was about to die for the nation,
52
and not for the nation alone, but also so that he might gather into one the scattered children of Elohim.
53
Therefore from that day they took counsel together to kill him.
54
Therefore Yahushua no longer walked openly among the Yehudim, but went away from there into the region near the wilderness, to a city called Ephrayim, and there he remained with the talmidim.
55
Now the Pesach of the Yehudim was near, and many went up from the countryside to Yerushalayim before Pesach so that they might purify themselves.
56
Therefore they were seeking Yahushua and saying to one another while standing in the House: “What do you think? That he shall certainly not come to the feast?”
57
Now the chief kohenim and the Perushim had given commands that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, so that they might seize him.
