1
Now before the Feast of Pesach, Yahushua knew that his hour had come to depart from this world to the Father. And having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
2
And during supper, the adversary had already put into the heart of Yehudah son of Shim’on of Qeriyot to hand him over.
3
Yahushua, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from Elohim, and was going to Elohim,
4
rose from the supper, laid aside his outer garments, and taking a linen cloth, girded himself.
5
Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the feet of the talmidim and to wipe them with the linen cloth with which he was girded.
6
Then he came to Shim’on Kepha. And Kepha said to him: “Master, are you washing my feet?”
7
Yahushua answered and said to him: “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you shall understand.”
8
Kepha said to him: “You shall certainly never wash my feet.” Yahushua answered him: “If I do not wash you, you have no portion with me.”
9
Shim’on Kepha said to him: “Master, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.”
10
Yahushua said to him: “The one who has bathed has no need except to wash his feet, but is clean entirely. And you are clean— but not all.”
11
For he knew the one who was handing him over. Because of this he said: “You are not all clean.”
12
Therefore when he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and reclined again, he said to them: “Do you understand what I have done to you?
13
You call me Teacher and Master, and you speak rightly, for I am.
14
Therefore if I— the Master and the Teacher— washed your feet, you also are obligated to wash one another’s feet.
15
For I gave you an example, so that just as I did to you, you also should do.
16
Truly, truly, I tell you: a servant is not greater than his master, nor an emissary greater than the one who sent him.
17
If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
18
I am not speaking concerning all of you. I know whom I chose. But the writing must be fulfilled: ‘The one eating my bread lifted up his heel against me.’
19
From now I tell you before it happens, so that when it happens you may trust that I am he.
20
Truly, truly, I tell you: whoever receives the one I send receives me. And whoever receives me receives the One who sent me.”
21
Having said these things, Yahushua became troubled in ruach and testified, saying: “Truly, truly, I tell you: one of you shall hand me over.”
22
The talmidim looked at one another, uncertain concerning whom he was speaking.
23
One of his talmidim, the one whom Yahushua loved, was reclining close beside Yahushua.
24
Therefore Shim’on Kepha signaled to him to ask who it might be concerning whom he was speaking.
25
And leaning back toward Yahushua, he said to him: “Master, who is it?”
26
Yahushua answered: “It is the one for whom I shall dip the piece of bread and give it to him.” Then dipping the piece, he gave it to Yehudah, son of Shim’on of Qeriyot.
27
And after the piece of bread, the adversary entered him. Therefore Yahushua said to him: “What you are doing, do quickly.”
28
But none of those reclining understood why he said this to him.
29
For some thought, because Yehudah had the money box, that Yahushua was saying to him: “Buy what we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor.
30
Therefore, after receiving the piece of bread, he went out immediately. And it was night.
31
When he had gone out, Yahushua said: “Now the Son of Adam has been glorified, and Elohim has been glorified in him.
32
And Elohim shall glorify him in Himself, and shall glorify him immediately.
33
Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You shall seek me. And just as I said to the Yehudim: ‘Where I am going you are not able to come,’ so now I say also to you.
34
A new commandment I give to you: that you love one another. Just as I loved you, you also must love one another.
35
By this all shall know that you are my talmidim— if you have love for one another.”
36
Shim’on Kepha said to him: “Master, where are you going?” Yahushua answered: “Where I am going you are not able to follow me now, but afterward you shall follow.”
37
Kepha said to him: “Master, why am I not able to follow you now? I shall lay down my life for you.”
38
Yahushua answered: “Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I tell you: a rooster shall certainly not call until you have denied me three times.”
