1
And the Pelishtim fought against Yisra’el, and every ish of Yisra’el fled from before the Pelishtim and fell slain upon Mount Gilboa.
2
And the Pelishtim pursued closely after Shaul and after his sons. And the Pelishtim struck Yehonatan, Avinadav, and Malki-Shua, sons of Shaul.
3
And the battle became heavy against Shaul, and the archers found him; and he writhed before the archers.
4
And Shaul said to the bearer of his weapons, “Draw your sword and pierce me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.” But the bearer of his weapons was not willing, for he feared exceedingly. And Shaul took the sword and fell upon it.
5
And the bearer of his weapons saw that Shaul was dead, and he also fell upon the sword and died.
6
Thus Shaul died, and his three sons; and all his House died together.
7
And every ish of Yisra’el who was in the valley saw that they had fled and that Shaul and his sons were dead. And they abandoned their cities and fled, and the Pelishtim came and dwelt in them.
8
And it came on the next day that the Pelishtim came to strip the slain, and they found Shaul and his sons fallen upon Mount Gilboa.
9
And they stripped him, lifted away his head and his weapons, and sent throughout the land of the Pelishtim all around to bring news to their idols and to the people.
10
And they placed his weapons in the house of their elohim, and fastened his skull in the house of Dagon.
11
And all Yavesh-Gilad heard all that the Pelishtim had done to Shaul.
12
Then every valiant ish arose, lifted the body of Shaul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Yavesh. They buried their bones beneath the terebinth in Yavesh and fasted seven days.
13
Thus Shaul died for his unfaithfulness by which he acted unfaithfully against Yahuah, concerning the Word of Yahuah that he did not guard, and also for inquiring of a spirit-medium to seek guidance.
14
He did not inquire of Yahuah. Therefore He put him to death and turned the Kingdom over to Daviyd son of Yishai.
