1
The received books shall be known and distinguished, so that false writings are not introduced merely because they bear a revered name.
2
The Ethiopian tradition counts eighty-one books, but counting may differ when writings are grouped or divided. Numbering shall not erase an independently received Sefer.
3
Torah, Nevi’im, Ketuvim/Wisdom, Besorah, apostolic writings, and received canonical books shall be read according to their own literary and juridical character.
4
Where several tongues preserve the same instruction, the witnesses shall be compared. A later translation shall not automatically overrule an older Semitic or eastern witness.
5
The interpreter shall distinguish the text itself from commentary, customary application, and later doctrinal explanation.
