1
Now in those days, as the number of the talmidim was increasing, a complaint arose from the Hellenists against the Ivrim, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution.
2
And the Twelve called together the multitude of the talmidim and said: “It is not fitting for us to leave the Word of Elohim in order to serve tables.
3
Therefore, brothers, choose from among you seven ishim having good testimony, full of Ruach and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this need.
4
But we shall continue steadfastly in prayer and in the service of the Word.”
5
And the word pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephanos, an ish full of trust and Holy Ruach, and Philippos, and Prochoros, and Nikanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nikolaos, a proselyte from Antioch.
6
These they set before the emissaries, and having prayed, they laid their hands upon them.
7
And the Word of Elohim continued to increase, and the number of the talmidim multiplied greatly in Yerushalayim, and a great multitude of the kohenim became obedient to the trust.
8
And Stephanos, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people.
9
But some arose from the synagogue called the Synagogue of the Freedmen, and of the Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and those from Qilikia and Asia, disputing with Stephanos.
10
And they were not able to withstand the wisdom and the Ruach by which he was speaking.
11
Then they secretly induced ishim to say: “We have heard him speaking blasphemous words against Mosheh and Elohim.”
12
And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and coming upon him, they seized him and brought him before the council.
13
And they set up false witnesses, saying: “This ish does not cease speaking words against this set-apart Place and the Torah.
14
For we heard him saying that this Yahushua the Natzri shall destroy this place and shall change the customs which Mosheh handed down to us.”
15
And all who were sitting in the council, looking intently at him, saw his face like the face of a messenger.
