1
And King Shəlomah loved many foreign women, besides the daughter of Pharaoh: Moavit, Ammonit, Edomit, Tzidonit, and Chittit women,
2
from the nations concerning whom Yahuah had said to the sons of Yisra’el: “You shall not go in among them, and they shall not come in among you; surely they will turn your heart after their elohim.” Shəlomah clung to these in love.
3
And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines. And his wives turned away his heart.
4
And it came to pass in the time of Shəlomah’s old age that his wives turned his heart after other elohim, and his heart was not whole with Yahuah his Elohim, as the heart of Daviyd his father.
5
And Shəlomah walked after Ashtoret, elohim of the Tzidonim, and after Milkom, the abomination of the Ammonim.
6
And Shəlomah did what was evil in the eyes of Yahuah and did not fully follow after Yahuah, as Daviyd his father.
7
Then Shəlomah built a high place for Kemosh, the abomination of Moav, upon the mountain that is before Yerushalayim, and for Molekh, the abomination of the sons of Ammon.
8
And thus he did for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their elohim.
9
And Yahuah became angry with Shəlomah, because his heart had turned away from Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el, who had appeared to him twice,
10
and had commanded him concerning this matter, that he should not walk after other elohim. But he did not guard what Yahuah commanded.
11
And Yahuah said to Shəlomah: “Because this has been with you, and you have not guarded My Covenant and My statutes that I commanded you, tearing, I will surely tear the Kingdom from you and give it to your servant.
12
Nevertheless, in your days I will not do it, for the sake of Daviyd your father. From the hand of your son I will tear it.
13
Only, I will not tear away all the Kingdom. One tribe I will give to your son, for the sake of Daviyd My servant and for the sake of Yerushalayim, which I have chosen.”
14
And Yahuah raised up an adversary against Shəlomah: Hadad the Edomi. He was from the seed of the king in Edom.
15
And it came to pass, when Daviyd was in Edom, and Yoav commander of the host had gone up to bury the slain, and had struck every male in Edom—
16
for six months Yoav remained there, and all Yisra’el, until he had cut off every male in Edom—
17
that Hadad fled, he and certain Edomi men from the servants of his father with him, to go to Mitzrayim. And Hadad was a young boy.
18
And they rose from Midyan and came to Paran. And they took men with them from Paran and came to Mitzrayim, to Pharaoh king of Mitzrayim. And he gave him a house and commanded bread for him and gave him land.
19
And Hadad found exceedingly great favor in the eyes of Pharaoh. And he gave him as ishah the sister of his own ishah, the sister of Tachpenes the queen.
20
And the sister of Tachpenes bore him Genuvat his son, and Tachpenes weaned him within the House of Pharaoh. And Genuvat was in the House of Pharaoh among the sons of Pharaoh.
21
And Hadad heard in Mitzrayim that Daviyd had lain down with his fathers and that Yoav commander of the host was dead. And Hadad said to Pharaoh: “Send me away, that I may go to my own land.”
22
And Pharaoh said to him: “What have you lacked with me, that see, you seek to go to your own land?” And he said: “Nothing. Nevertheless, sending, surely send me.”
23
And Elohim raised up another adversary against him: Rezon son of Elyada, who had fled from Hadadezer king of Tzovah, his master.
24
And he gathered men to himself and became commander of a band when Daviyd put them to death. And they went to Dammeseq and dwelt there and reigned in Dammeseq.
25
And he was an adversary to Yisra’el all the days of Shəlomah, besides the evil that Hadad did. And he abhorred Yisra’el and reigned over Aram.
26
And Yarovam son of Nevat, an Efrati from Tzeredah, servant of Shəlomah—and the name of his mother was Tzeruah, a widow ishah—also lifted up his hand against the king.
27
And this was the matter for which he lifted up his hand against the king: Shəlomah built the Millo and closed the breach of the City of Daviyd his father.
28
And the ish Yarovam was a mighty son of strength. And Shəlomah saw the young man, that he was doing work, and appointed him over all the burden of the House of Yosef.
29
And it came to pass at that time, when Yarovam went out from Yerushalayim, that Achiyah the Shiloni, the prophet, found him on the way. And he had clothed himself with a new garment, and the two of them were alone in the field.
30
And Achiyah took hold of the new garment that was upon him and tore it into twelve pieces.
31
And he said to Yarovam: “Take for yourself ten pieces, for thus says Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el: ‘See, I am tearing the Kingdom from the hand of Shəlomah, and I will give to you ten tribes.
32
But one tribe shall be his, for the sake of Daviyd My servant and for the sake of Yerushalayim, the city that I have chosen from all the tribes of Yisra’el,
33
because they have forsaken Me and bowed themselves to Ashtoret, elohim of the Tzidonim, to Kemosh, elohim of Moav, and to Milkom, elohim of the sons of Ammon, and they have not walked in My ways, to do what is upright in My eyes, and My statutes and My Judgments, as Daviyd his father.
34
Nevertheless, I will not take all the Kingdom from his hand, but I will set him as ruler all the days of his life, for the sake of Daviyd My servant, whom I chose, who guarded My commandments and My statutes.
35
But I will take the Kingdom from the hand of his son and give it to you—the ten tribes.
36
And to his son I will give one tribe, so that there may be a Lamp for Daviyd My servant before My face continually in Yerushalayim, the city that I chose for Myself, to place My Name there.
37
And you I will take, and you shall reign according to all that your being desires, and you shall be king over Yisra’el.
38
And it shall be, if you listen to all that I command you, and walk in My ways, and do what is upright in My eyes, to guard My statutes and My commandments, as Daviyd My servant did, then I will be with you and build for you an Enduring House, as I built for Daviyd, and I will give Yisra’el to you.
39
And I will afflict the Seed of Daviyd because of this, but not all the days.’”
40
And Shəlomah sought to put Yarovam to death. But Yarovam rose and fled to Mitzrayim, to Shishaq king of Mitzrayim, and he was in Mitzrayim until the death of Shəlomah.
41
And the rest of the matters of Shəlomah, and all that he did, and his wisdom—are they not written in the Sefer of the Matters of Shəlomah?
42
And the days that Shəlomah reigned in Yerushalayim over all Yisra’el were forty years.
43
And Shəlomah lay down with his fathers and was buried in the City of Daviyd his father. And Rechavam his son reigned in his place.
