1
And Eliyahu the Tishbi, from the settlers of Gilad, said to Achav: “As Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el, lives, before whose face I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years except according to my word.”
2
And the Word of Yahuah came to him, saying:
3
“Go from here and turn eastward, and hide yourself by the wadi Kerit, which is before the Yarden.
4
And it shall be that you shall drink from the wadi, and I have commanded the ravens there to sustain you.”
5
And he went and did according to the Word of Yahuah. And he went and dwelt by the wadi Kerit, which is before the Yarden.
6
And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening, and he drank from the wadi.
7
And it came to pass at the end of days that the wadi dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
8
And the Word of Yahuah came to him, saying:
9
“Rise, go to Tzarefat, which belongs to Tzidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded there a widow ishah to sustain you.”
10
And he rose and went to Tzarefat. And he came to the entrance of the city, and see, a widow ishah was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said: “Please take for me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.”
11
And she went to take it. And he called to her and said: “Please take for me a morsel of bread in your hand.”
12
And she said: “As Yahuah your Elohim lives, I have no cake, except a handful of flour in the jar and a little oil in the jug. And see, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and prepare it for myself and for my son, and we shall eat it and die.”
13
And Eliyahu said to her: “Do not fear. Go and do according to your word. Only make for me from it a little cake first, and bring it out to me; and afterward make for yourself and for your son.
14
For thus says Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el: ‘The jar of flour shall not be consumed, and the jug of oil shall not lack, until the day Yahuah gives rain upon the face of the earth.’”
15
And she went and did according to the word of Eliyahu. And she ate, she and he and her house, many days.
16
The jar of flour was not consumed, and the jug of oil did not lack, according to the Word of Yahuah that He spoke by the hand of Eliyahu.
17
And it came to pass after these things that the son of the ishah, mistress of the house, became sick. And his sickness became exceedingly severe, until no breath remained in him.
18
And she said to Eliyahu: “What is there to me and to you, ish of Elohim? Have you come to me to bring my crookedness to remembrance and to put my son to death?”
19
And he said to her: “Give me your son.” And he took him from her bosom and carried him up to the upper room where he was dwelling, and laid him upon his own bed.
20
And he called to Yahuah and said: “Yahuah my Elohim, have You also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn by putting her son to death?”
21
And he stretched himself upon the child three times and called to Yahuah and said: “Yahuah my Elohim, please let the being of this child return into him.”
22
And Yahuah listened to the voice of Eliyahu. And the being of the child returned into him, and he lived.
23
And Eliyahu took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to his mother. And Eliyahu said: “See, your son lives.”
24
And the ishah said to Eliyahu: “Now this I know: that you are an ish of Elohim, and that the Word of Yahuah in your mouth is truth.”
