1
And they dwelt three years without war between Aram and Yisra’el.
2
And it came to pass in the third year that Yehoshafat king of Yehudah went down to the king of Yisra’el.
3
And the king of Yisra’el said to his servants: “Do you know that Ramot-Gilad belongs to us, and we are silent from taking it from the hand of the king of Aram?”
4
And he said to Yehoshafat: “Will you go with me to battle at Ramot-Gilad?” And Yehoshafat said to the king of Yisra’el: “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”
5
And Yehoshafat said to the king of Yisra’el: “Please seek first the Word of Yahuah.”
6
And the king of Yisra’el gathered the prophets, about four hundred ish, and said to them: “Shall I go against Ramot-Gilad for battle, or shall I refrain?” And they said: “Go up, for Adonai will give it into the hand of the king.”
7
And Yehoshafat said: “Is there not still here a prophet of Yahuah, that we may seek by him?”
8
And the king of Yisra’el said to Yehoshafat: “There is still one ish by whom we may seek Yahuah, but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil: Mikhayahu son of Yimlah.” And Yehoshafat said: “Let not the king say so.”
9
And the king of Yisra’el called one officer and said: “Hurry, bring Mikhayahu son of Yimlah.”
10
And the king of Yisra’el and Yehoshafat king of Yehudah were sitting, each ish upon his Throne, clothed in garments, at the threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Shomron, and all the prophets were prophesying before their face.
11
And Tzidqiyahu son of Kenaanah made for himself horns of iron and said: “Thus says Yahuah: ‘With these you shall gore Aram until you consume them.’”
12
And all the prophets prophesied thus, saying: “Go up to Ramot-Gilad and prosper, for Yahuah will give it into the hand of the king.”
13
And the messenger who had gone to call Mikhayahu spoke to him, saying: “See now, the words of the prophets are with one mouth good toward the king. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak good.”
14
And Mikhayahu said: “As Yahuah lives, whatever Yahuah says to me, that I will speak.”
15
And he came to the king. And the king said to him: “Mikhayahu, shall we go to Ramot-Gilad for battle, or shall we refrain?” And he said to him: “Go up and prosper, and Yahuah will give it into the hand of the king.”
16
And the king said to him: “How many times shall I cause you to swear that you speak to me nothing but truth in the Name of Yahuah?”
17
And he said: “I saw all Yisra’el scattered upon the mountains, like sheep that have no shepherd. And Yahuah said: ‘These have no master. Let each ish return to his house in shalom.’”
18
And the king of Yisra’el said to Yehoshafat: “Did I not say to you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”
19
And he said: “Therefore hear the Word of Yahuah: I saw Yahuah sitting upon His Throne, and all the host of the heavens standing beside Him, on His right and on His left.
20
And Yahuah said: ‘Who will entice Achav, that he may go up and fall at Ramot-Gilad?’ And this one spoke thus, and that one spoke thus.
21
And a ruach came out and stood before the face of Yahuah and said: ‘I will entice him.’
22
And Yahuah said to him: ‘By what?’ And he said: ‘I will go out and become a lying ruach in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And He said: ‘You shall entice him, and you shall also prevail. Go out and do so.’
23
And now, see, Yahuah has placed a lying ruach in the mouth of all these your prophets, and Yahuah has spoken evil concerning you.”
24
And Tzidqiyahu son of Kenaanah drew near and struck Mikhayahu upon the cheek and said: “By what way did the Ruach of Yahuah pass from me to speak with you?”
25
And Mikhayahu said: “See, you shall see on that day when you go into an inner room to hide yourself.”
26
And the king of Yisra’el said: “Take Mikhayahu and return him to Amon ruler of the city and to Yoash son of the king.
27
And say: ‘Thus says the king: Put this one in the house of confinement and cause him to eat bread of affliction and water of affliction until I come in shalom.’”
28
And Mikhayahu said: “If returning, you return in shalom, Yahuah has not spoken by me.” And he said: “Hear, all you peoples!”
29
And the king of Yisra’el and Yehoshafat king of Yehudah went up to Ramot-Gilad.
30
And the king of Yisra’el said to Yehoshafat: “I will disguise myself and enter the battle, but you put on your garments.” And the king of Yisra’el disguised himself and entered the battle.
31
And the king of Aram had commanded the thirty-two commanders of his chariots, saying: “You shall fight neither with small nor great, except with the king of Yisra’el alone.”
32
And it came to pass, when the commanders of the chariots saw Yehoshafat, that they said: “Surely this is the king of Yisra’el.” And they turned aside against him to fight. And Yehoshafat cried out.
33
And it came to pass, when the commanders of the chariots saw that he was not the king of Yisra’el, that they returned from after him.
34
And one ish drew the bow in his innocence and struck the king of Yisra’el between the joints and the armor. And he said to the driver of his chariot: “Turn your hand and bring me out from the battle, for I am wounded.”
35
And the battle rose on that day, and the king was held standing in the chariot opposite Aram. And he died in the evening. And the blood of the wound poured into the bottom of the chariot.
36
And the cry passed through the camp at the going down of the sun, saying: “Each ish to his city, and each ish to his land!”
37
And the king died and came to Shomron. And they buried the king in Shomron.
38
And they washed the chariot by the pool of Shomron, and the dogs licked his blood, and the prostitutes washed there, according to the Word of Yahuah that He had spoken.
39
And the rest of the matters of Achav, and all that he did, and the ivory house that he built, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the Sefer of the Matters of the Days of the Kings of Yisra’el?
40
And Achav lay down with his fathers. And Achazyahu his son reigned in his place.
41
And Yehoshafat son of Asa began to reign over Yehudah in the fourth year of Achav king of Yisra’el.
42
Yehoshafat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Yerushalayim. And the name of his mother was Azuvah daughter of Shilchi.
43
And he walked in all the way of Asa his father. He did not turn aside from it, doing what was upright in the eyes of Yahuah. Nevertheless, the high places were not removed; the people were still sacrificing and burning incense upon the high places.
44
And Yehoshafat made shalom with the king of Yisra’el.
45
And the rest of the matters of Yehoshafat, and his strength that he exercised, and how he made war, are they not written in the Sefer of the Matters of the Days of the Kings of Yehudah?
46
And the remainder of the male cult prostitutes who remained in the days of Asa his father, he removed from the land.
47
And there was no king in Edom; a deputy was king.
48
Yehoshafat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ofir for gold, but they did not go, for the ships were broken at Etzyon-Gever.
49
Then Achazyahu son of Achav said to Yehoshafat: “Let my servants go with your servants in the ships.” But Yehoshafat was not willing.
50
And Yehoshafat lay down with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the City of Daviyd his father. And Yehoram his son reigned in his place.
51
Achazyahu son of Achav began to reign over Yisra’el in Shomron in the seventeenth year of Yehoshafat king of Yehudah, and he reigned over Yisra’el two years.
52
And he did what was evil in the eyes of Yahuah and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Yarovam son of Nevat, who caused Yisra’el to sin.
53
And he served Baal and bowed himself to him, and provoked Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el, to anger, according to all that his father had done.
