1
And one ishah from the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying: “Your servant, my ish, is dead, and you know that your servant feared Yahuah. And the creditor has come to take my two sons for himself as servants.”
2
And Elisha said to her: “What shall I do for you? Declare to me: what do you have in the house?” And she said: “Your maidservant has nothing in the house except a flask of oil.”
3
And he said: “Go, ask for vessels for yourself from outside, from all your neighbors—empty vessels. Do not make them few.
4
And you shall go in and shut the door behind you and behind your sons. And pour into all these vessels, and the full one you shall set aside.”
5
And she went from him and shut the door behind her and behind her sons. They brought the vessels to her, and she poured.
6
And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son: “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her: “There is no more vessel.” And the oil stopped.
7
And she came and declared it to the ish of Elohim. And he said: “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt. And you and your sons shall live from what remains.”
8
And it came to pass one day that Elisha crossed over to Shunem, and there was a great ishah there, and she strongly urged him to eat bread. And it came to pass, whenever he crossed over, that he turned aside there to eat bread.
9
And she said to her ish: “See now, I know that this is a holy ish of Elohim who continually passes by us.
10
Please, let us make a small upper room of walls and place there for him a bed, and a table, and a seat, and a lamp. And it shall be, when he comes to us, that he may turn aside there.”
11
And it came to pass one day that he came there and turned aside to the upper room and lay down there.
12
And he said to Geichazi his young man: “Call this Shunammit.” And he called her, and she stood before his face.
13
And he said to him: “Please say to her: ‘See, you have been careful for us with all this care. What is there to do for you? Is there something to speak for you to the king or to the commander of the host?’” And she said: “I dwell in the midst of my own people.”
14
And he said: “What then is there to do for her?” And Geichazi said: “Truly, she has no son, and her ish is old.”
15
And he said: “Call her.” And he called her, and she stood in the doorway.
16
And he said: “At the appointed time, according to the time of life, you shall embrace a son.” And she said: “No, my master, ish of Elohim, do not lie to your maidservant.”
17
And the ishah conceived and bore a son at the appointed time, according to the time of life, as Elisha had spoken to her.
18
And the child grew. And it came to pass one day that he went out to his father, to the reapers.
19
And he said to his father: “My head! My head!” And he said to the young man: “Carry him to his mother.”
20
And he carried him and brought him to his mother. And he sat upon her knees until midday, and died.
21
And she went up and laid him upon the bed of the ish of Elohim, and shut the door behind him, and went out.
22
And she called to her ish and said: “Please send me one of the young men and one of the donkeys, and I will run to the ish of Elohim and return.”
23
And he said: “Why are you going to him today? It is neither new moon nor Shabbat.” And she said: “Shalom.”
24
And she saddled the donkey and said to her young man: “Drive and go forward. Do not hold back the riding for me unless I tell you.”
25
And she went and came to the ish of Elohim at Mount Karmel. And it came to pass, when the ish of Elohim saw her from a distance, that he said to Geichazi his young man: “See, there is the Shunammit.
26
Now please run to meet her and say to her: ‘Is there shalom with you? Is there shalom with your ish? Is there shalom with the child?’” And she said: “Shalom.”
27
And she came to the ish of Elohim at the mountain and took hold of his feet. And Geichazi drew near to push her away. But the ish of Elohim said: “Leave her, for her being is bitter within her, and Yahuah has hidden it from me and has not declared it to me.”
28
And she said: “Did I ask a son from my master? Did I not say, ‘Do not deceive me’?”
29
And he said to Geichazi: “Gird up your loins, and take my staff in your hand, and go. If you meet an ish, do not bless him; and if an ish blesses you, do not answer him. And place my staff upon the face of the young man.”
30
And the mother of the young man said: “As Yahuah lives, and as your being lives, I will not leave you.” And he rose and walked after her.
31
And Geichazi passed before their face and placed the staff upon the face of the young man. But there was no voice, and there was no attention. And he returned to meet him and declared to him, saying: “The young man has not awakened.”
32
And Elisha came into the house, and see, the young man was dead, lying upon his bed.
33
And he went in and shut the door behind the two of them and prayed to Yahuah.
34
And he went up and lay upon the child and placed his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his palms upon his palms. And he stretched himself upon him, and the flesh of the child became warm.
35
And he returned and walked in the house, once here and once there. And he went up and stretched himself upon him. And the young man sneezed seven times, and the young man opened his eyes.
36
And he called Geichazi and said: “Call this Shunammit.” And he called her. And she came to him, and he said: “Lift up your son.”
37
And she came and fell at his feet and bowed herself to the earth. And she lifted up her son and went out.
38
And Elisha returned to Gilgal. And the famine was in the land. And the sons of the prophets were sitting before his face. And he said to his young man: “Set the large pot and boil stew for the sons of the prophets.”
39
And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine and gathered from it wild gourds, his garment full. And he came and sliced them into the pot of stew, for they did not know them.
40
And they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they ate from the stew, that they cried out and said: “Death is in the pot, ish of Elohim!” And they were not able to eat.
41
And he said: “Take flour.” And he cast it into the pot and said: “Pour out for the people, and let them eat.” And there was no evil thing in the pot.
42
And an ish came from Baal-Shalishah and brought to the ish of Elohim bread of firstfruits: twenty loaves of barley and fresh grain in his sack. And he said: “Give to the people, and let them eat.”
43
And his servant said: “What? Shall I set this before one hundred ish?” And he said: “Give to the people, and let them eat, for thus says Yahuah: ‘Eating, they shall eat, and there shall be remainder.’”
44
And he set it before their face, and they ate and left remainder, according to the Word of Yahuah.
