1
And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him: “Gird up your loins, and take this flask of oil in your hand, and go to Ramot-Gilad.
2
And when you come there, see there Yehu son of Yehoshafat, son of Nimshi. And go in, and cause him to rise from among his brothers, and bring him into an inner room.
3
And take the flask of oil and pour it upon his head, and say: ‘Thus says Yahuah: “I have anointed you as king over Yisra’el.”’ And open the door and flee, and do not wait.”
4
And the young man, the young prophet, went to Ramot-Gilad.
5
And he came, and see, the commanders of the host were sitting. And he said: “I have a word for you, commander.” And Yehu said: “For which one of all of us?” And he said: “For you, commander.”
6
And he rose and went into the house. And he poured the oil upon his head and said to him: “Thus says Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el: ‘I have anointed you as King over the people of Yahuah, over Yisra’el.
7
And you shall strike the House of Achav your master, that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets and the blood of all the servants of Yahuah from the hand of Izevel.
8
And all the House of Achav shall perish. And I will cut off from Achav every male, restrained and abandoned in Yisra’el.
9
And I will make the House of Achav like the House of Yarovam son of Nevat, and like the House of Baasha son of Achiyah.
10
And the dogs shall eat Izevel in the portion of Yizre’el, and there shall be none to bury her.’” And he opened the door and fled.
11
And Yehu went out to the servants of his master. And one said to him: “Is there shalom? Why did this madman come to you?” And he said to them: “You know the ish and his talk.”
12
And they said: “False. Please declare it to us.” And he said: “Thus and thus he spoke to me, saying: ‘Thus says Yahuah: “I have anointed you as King over Yisra’el.”’”
13
And they hurried, and each ish took his garment and placed it beneath him upon the bare steps. And they blew the shofar and said: “Yehu reigns!”
14
And Yehu son of Yehoshafat, son of Nimshi, conspired against Yehoram. Now Yehoram had been guarding Ramot-Gilad, he and all Yisra’el, because of Chazael king of Aram.
15
But King Yehoram had returned to Yizre’el to be healed from the wounds with which the Aramim had struck him when he fought with Chazael king of Aram. And Yehu said: “If this is your being’s desire, let no fugitive go out from the city to go and declare it in Yizre’el.”
16
And Yehu rode and went to Yizre’el, for Yehoram was lying there. And Achazyahu king of Yehudah had gone down to see Yehoram.
17
And the watchman was standing upon the tower in Yizre’el. And he saw the company of Yehu as he came and said: “I see a company.” And Yehoram said: “Take a horseman and send him to meet them, and let him say: ‘Is there shalom?’”
18
And the horseman went to meet him and said: “Thus says the king: ‘Is there shalom?’” And Yehu said: “What is there to you and to shalom? Turn behind me.” And the watchman declared, saying: “The messenger came to them, but he does not return.”
19
And he sent a second horseman. And he came to them and said: “Thus says the king: ‘Is there shalom?’” And Yehu said: “What is there to you and to shalom? Turn behind me.”
20
And the watchman declared, saying: “He came to them, but he does not return. And the driving is like the driving of Yehu son of Nimshi, for he drives with madness.”
21
And Yehoram said: “Bind the chariot.” And his chariot was bound. And Yehoram king of Yisra’el and Achazyahu king of Yehudah went out, each ish in his chariot. And they went out to meet Yehu and found him in the portion of Navot the Yizre’eli.
22
And it came to pass, when Yehoram saw Yehu, that he said: “Is there shalom, Yehu?” And he said: “What shalom, while the prostitutions of Izevel your mother and her sorceries are so many?”
23
And Yehoram turned his hands and fled and said to Achazyahu: “Treachery, Achazyahu!”
24
And Yehu filled his hand with the bow and struck Yehoram between his arms. And the arrow came out through his heart, and he sank down in his chariot.
25
And he said to Bidqar his officer: “Lift him up. Cast him into the portion of the field of Navot the Yizre’eli. For remember: when I and you were riding together behind Achav his father, Yahuah lifted up this burden against him:
26
‘Surely I saw yesterday the blood of Navot and the blood of his sons,’ declares Yahuah, ‘and I will repay you in this portion,’ declares Yahuah. And now, lift him up and cast him into the portion, according to the Word of Yahuah.”
27
And Achazyahu king of Yehudah saw and fled by the way of the garden house. And Yehu pursued after him and said: “Strike him also in the chariot.” And they struck him at the ascent of Gur, which is beside Yivleam. And he fled to Megiddo and died there.
28
And his servants carried him in the chariot to Yerushalayim and buried him in his tomb with his fathers in the City of Daviyd.
29
And in the eleventh year of Yehoram son of Achav, Achazyahu began to reign over Yehudah.
30
And Yehu came to Yizre’el. And Izevel heard. And she painted her eyes with kohl and arranged her head and looked out through the window.
31
And Yehu entered through the gate. And she said: “Is there shalom, Zimri, murderer of his master?”
32
And he lifted up his face toward the window and said: “Who is with me? Who?” And two or three eunuchs looked down toward him.
33
And he said: “Throw her down.” And they threw her down. And some of her blood splattered upon the wall and upon the horses, and he trampled her.
34
And he came in and ate and drank. And he said: “Please attend to this cursed ishah and bury her, for she is a king’s daughter.”
35
And they went to bury her, but they found nothing of her except the skull, and the feet, and the palms of the hands.
36
And they returned and declared it to him. And he said: “This is the Word of Yahuah that He spoke by the hand of His servant Eliyahu the Tishbi, saying: ‘In the portion of Yizre’el the dogs shall eat the flesh of Izevel.
37
And the corpse of Izevel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Yizre’el, so that they shall not say: “This is Izevel.”’”
