1
So the king and Haman came to drink with Queen Ester.
2
And the king said again to Ester on the second day, at the feast of wine: “What is your petition, Queen Ester? It shall be given to you. And what is your request? Even to half of the Kingdom, it shall be done.”
3
Then Queen Ester answered and said: “If I have found favor in your eyes, O king, and if it is good before the king, let my life be given to me at my petition, and my people at my request.
4
For we have been sold— I and my people— to be destroyed, to be killed, and to perish. And if we had merely been sold as male servants and female servants, I would have kept silent, though the adversary could not compensate for the king’s loss.”
5
Then King Achashverosh answered and said to Queen Ester: “Who is he? And where is he, whose heart has filled him to do this?”
6
And Ester said: “The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman.” Then Haman was terrified before the king and the queen.
7
And the king arose in his wrath from the feast of wine and went into the garden of the palace. But Haman remained to seek his life from Queen Ester, for he saw that evil had been determined against him by the king.
8
Then the king returned from the palace garden to the house of the feast of wine. And Haman had fallen upon the couch where Ester was. And the king said: “Will he even force the queen with me in the house?” The word went out from the mouth of the king, and they covered Haman’s face.
9
Then Charvona, one of the eunuchs before the king, said: “See also, the tree which Haman made for Mordekhai— the one who spoke good concerning the king— stands at Haman’s house, fifty cubits high.” And the king said: “Hang him upon it.”
10
So they hanged Haman upon the tree which he had prepared for Mordekhai. Then the wrath of the king subsided.
