1
And this was the copy of the sefer: “The great King Achashverosh writes these things to the rulers of the one hundred and twenty-seven provinces from Hodu to Kush, and to the governors under them.
2
Though I rule over many nations and have obtained dominion over the whole inhabited earth, I did not desire to exalt myself through the greatness of authority, but to govern with gentleness and restraint, so that my subjects might live continually in quietness, and that my Kingdom, being established in shalom, might remain open for travel from one end to the other, and that the shalom desired by all Adam might be restored.
3
But when I asked my counselors how this might be brought to completion, Haman, who excels among us in prudence and is distinguished for unwavering loyalty and steadfast faithfulness, and who has obtained the second place in the Kingdom,
4
declared to us that among all the nations throughout the inhabited earth there is scattered a certain hostile people, whose laws are contrary to those of every nation, and who continually reject the commands of kings, so that the administration of our Kingdom cannot proceed without obstruction.
5
Therefore, having understood that this people alone stands continually in opposition to every Adam, maintaining strange laws and being hostile to our affairs, and committing the worst evils so that the Kingdom cannot attain stability,
6
we have commanded that those indicated to you in the sefarim written by Haman, who has been appointed over our affairs and is to us as a second father, shall all, with their women and little ones, be utterly destroyed by the swords of their enemies, without compassion or restraint, on the fourteenth day of the twelfth month, Adar, of this present year,
7
so that those who have long been hostile and now also are hostile may descend violently to Sheol in one day, and afterward establish our affairs in security and without disturbance for all time.”
8
And Mordekhai remembered all the works of Yahuah and made his petition to Him,
9
saying: “Yahuah, Yahuah, King who rules over all, for all things are in Your authority, and there is none who can resist You when You desire to save Yisra’el.
10
For You made the heavens and the earth and every wondrous thing beneath the heavens.
11
You are Master of all, and there is none who can stand against You, Yahuah.
12
You know all things. You know, Yahuah, that it was neither in contempt, nor in pride, nor in desire for glory that I refused to bow down before the proud Haman.
13
For I would gladly have kissed the soles of his feet for the salvation of Yisra’el.
14
But I did this so that I might not set the glory of Adam above the Glory of Elohim, and I will bow down to none except You, my Yahuah. And I shall not do this in pride.
15
And now, Yahuah Elohim, King, Elohim of Avraham, spare Your People, for our enemies have set their eyes upon us to consume us and desire to destroy Your ancient Inheritance.
16
Do not neglect Your portion, which You redeemed for Yourself out of Mitsrayim.
17
Hear my petition. Show favor to Your Inheritance. Turn our mourning into a feast, that we may live and sing praise to Your Name, Yahuah. And do not destroy the mouth of those who praise You.”
18
And all Yisra’el cried out with all their strength, for death was before their eyes.
