1
The great King Achashverosh writes these things to the rulers of the one hundred and twenty-seven provinces from Hodu to Kush, and to those who are faithful to our affairs:
2
Many, the more frequently they are honored through the abundant goodness of those who benefit them, become increasingly proud.
3
And they seek not only to harm our subjects, but being unable to bear abundance, they even undertake to devise evil against those who do good to them.
4
And they not only remove gratitude from among Adam, but lifted up by the boastings of those who do not know good, they suppose that they shall escape the Judgment of Elohim, who sees all things and hates evil.
5
And often the persuasion of companions and those entrusted with authority has caused rulers who were themselves innocent to become sharers in the blood of the blameless,
6
because the deceit of an evil disposition misled the simple goodness of those who rule.
7
And this may be seen, not so much from ancient accounts, as from what lies before your eyes, if you examine what wicked things have been done through the corruption of those unworthily holding authority.
8
Therefore we must take care for the future, that we may establish the Kingdom in quietness and shalom for all Adam,
9
making use of necessary changes and judging the matters brought before us with upright consideration.
10
For Haman, son of Hammedatha, a Makedonian, being truly foreign to the blood of Paras and greatly separated from our goodness, was received by us as a guest.
11
And he obtained such abundant kindness which we extend toward every nation that he was proclaimed our father and was continually honored by all, bowing before him as the second person of the royal Throne.
12
But unable to carry the weight of his greatness, he devised to deprive us of the Kingdom and of life.
13
For by many-sided and deceitful methods he sought the destruction of Mordekhai, our savior and continual benefactor, and of Ester, the blameless companion of the Kingdom, together with their whole nation.
14
For by these means he thought, having made us desolate, to transfer the dominion of Paras to the Makedonians.
15
But we find that the Yehudim, whom this three-times-wicked ish delivered over to destruction, are not evildoers, but are governed by most righteous laws,
16
and are sons of El Elyon, the great and living Elohim, who has ordered the Kingdom for us and for our fathers in the best manner.
17
Therefore you shall do well not to carry out the sefarim sent by Haman son of Hammedatha,
18
because the one who did these things has been hanged with his whole house at the gates of Shushan, Elohim, who rules over all, swiftly returning to him the Judgment he deserved.
19
Therefore display publicly a copy of this sefer in every place, and permit the Yehudim to live according to their own laws.
20
And assist them, so that on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, Adar, they may defend themselves against those who attack them in the time of their affliction.
21
For Elohim, who rules over all, has turned this day for them from destruction of the chosen nation into joy.
22
Therefore you also, among your appointed feasts, shall keep this distinguished day with every joy,
23
so that now and afterward it may be salvation for us and for the well-disposed among the people of Paras, but a memorial of destruction for those who devise evil against us.
24
And every city or province that does not act according to these things shall be utterly destroyed with spear and fire and shall be made not only inaccessible to Adam, but hateful even to wild beasts and birds for all time.
