1
Again the day came when the sons of Elohim entered to station themselves before Yahuah, and the Accuser also entered among them to station himself before Yahuah.
2
And Yahuah said to the Accuser, “From where do you come?” The Accuser answered Yahuah and said, “From roaming through the earth and walking about in it.”
3
Then Yahuah said to the Accuser, “Have you set your heart upon My servant Iyov? For there is none like him upon the earth— an ish complete and upright, fearing Elohim and turning away from evil. He still holds firmly to his completeness, though you moved Me against him to swallow him without cause.”
4
And the Accuser answered Yahuah and said, “Skin for skin! All that an ish has he shall give for his being.
5
But now, send forth Your hand and strike his bone and his flesh. Surely he shall curse You to Your face.”
6
Then Yahuah said to the Accuser, “See, he is in your hand; only guard his being.”
7
And the Accuser went out from before the face of Yahuah and struck Iyov with evil boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.
8
And he took for himself a shard with which to scrape himself, while he sat in the midst of ashes.
9
Then his ishah said to him, “Do you still hold firmly to your completeness? Curse Elohim and die.”
10
But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we receive good from Elohim, and not also receive evil?” In all this Iyov did not sin with his lips.
11
And three companions of Iyov heard of all this evil that had come upon him. Each came from his own place: Eliyphaz the Teimani, Bildad the Shuchi, and Tzophar the Naamati. They appointed a time together to come, to lament with him and comfort him.
12
And they lifted their eyes from afar and did not recognize him. They lifted their voices and wept; each tore his robe, and they sprinkled dust upon their heads toward the heavens.
13
And they sat with him upon the earth seven days and seven nights. No one spoke a word to him, for they saw that the pain was exceedingly great.
