1
Then Eliyphaz the Teimani answered and said:
2
“If one tests a word with you, shall you become weary? Yet who is able to restrain words?
3
See, you corrected many, and you strengthened weak hands.
4
Your words raised up the one stumbling, and you made bending knees firm.
5
But now it comes to you, and you become weary; it touches you, and you are terrified.
6
Is not your fear your confidence, and the completeness of your ways your hope?
7
Remember, please: who ever perished while innocent? And where were the upright cut off?
8
According to what I have seen, those who plow crookedness and sow trouble harvest it.
9
By the breath of Eloah they perish, and by the ruach of His nostrils they are consumed.
10
The roaring of the lion, the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions are broken.
11
The strong lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered.
12
And a Word stole toward me, and my ear received a whisper of it.
13
In thoughts from visions of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men,
14
dread met me, and trembling, and made the multitude of my bones dread.
15
And a ruach passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up.
16
It stood, but I could not recognize its appearance. A form was before my eyes; silence—and then I heard a voice:
17
‘Can mortal man be more righteous than Eloah? Can a mighty one be more pure than his Maker?
18
See, He does not trust in His servants, and He assigns error to His messengers.
19
How much more those dwelling in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before a moth.
20
From morning to evening they are beaten down; without anyone setting it upon the heart, they perish forever.
21
Is not their tent-cord pulled up within them? They die, and not in wisdom.’
