1
“See, my eye has seen all; my ear has heard and understood it.
2
What you know, I also know; I do not fall beneath you.
3
But I would speak to Shaddai, and I desire to argue with El.
4
Yet you are plasterers of falsehood; all of you are healers of worthlessness.
5
If only you would be utterly silent— it would be wisdom for you.
6
Hear, please, my argument, and give ear to the contentions of my lips.
7
Shall you speak crookedness for El? Shall you speak deceit for Him?
8
Shall you lift His face? Shall you contend for El?
9
Is it good that He should search you? Can you deceive Him as one deceives mortal man?
10
He shall surely correct you if you secretly lift a face.
11
Shall not His exaltation terrify you, and His dread fall upon you?
12
Your memorial sayings are proverbs of ashes; your defenses are defenses of clay.
13
Be silent before me, and let me speak; then let whatever comes pass over me.
14
Why do I take my flesh in my teeth and place my being in my palm?
15
Though He puts me to death, I shall wait for Him; surely I shall argue my ways before His face.
16
He also shall be my Salvation, for a profane one cannot enter before His face.
17
Hear my Word diligently, and let my declaration be in your ears.
18
See now, I have arranged Judgment; I know that I am righteous.
19
Who is he who shall contend with me? For then I would be silent and expire.
20
Only two things do not do to me; then I shall not hide from Your face:
21
remove Your hand far from me, and let Your terror not frighten me.
22
Then call, and I shall answer; or let me speak, and You return to me.
23
How many are my crooked deeds and sins? Cause me to know my transgression and my sin.
24
Why do You conceal Your face and consider me Your enemy?
25
Shall You terrify a driven leaf? Shall You pursue dry straw?
26
For You write bitter things against me and cause me to inherit the crookedness of my youth.
27
You set my feet in the stocks and guard all my paths; You carve Yourself around the roots of my feet.
28
And he decays like rot, like a garment eaten by a moth.
