1
Then Bildad the Shuchi answered and said:
2
“How long until you set an end to words? Understand, and afterward we shall speak.
3
Why are we considered as animals? Why are we unclean in your eyes?
4
You tear your being in your anger. Shall the earth be forsaken for your sake, or a rock move from its place?
5
Indeed, the light of the wicked is extinguished, and the flame of his fire does not shine.
6
Light becomes dark in his tent, and his lamp is extinguished over him.
7
The steps of his strength are restrained, and his own counsel throws him down.
8
For he is sent into a net by his own feet, and he walks upon woven mesh.
9
A trap seizes him by the heel; a snare holds him firmly.
10
A cord is hidden for him in the earth, and a trap for him upon the path.
11
Terrors frighten him all around and scatter him at his feet.
12
His strength becomes hungry, and ruin is prepared at his side.
13
It devours the parts of his skin; the firstborn of death devours his limbs.
14
His confidence is torn from his tent, and he is marched to the sovereign of terrors.
15
That which is not his dwells in his tent; sulfur is scattered upon his dwelling.
16
His roots dry beneath, and his branch is cut above.
17
His remembrance perishes from the earth, and he has no name upon the face of the street.
18
He is driven from light into darkness and chased from the inhabited earth.
19
He has no offspring or descendant among his people, and no survivor in his dwellings.
20
Those in the west are astonished at his day, and those in the east seize dread.
21
Surely these are the dwellings of the crooked, and this is the place of one who does not know El.”
