1
Then Iyov answered and said:
2
“How long shall you afflict my being and crush me with words?
3
These ten times you have humiliated me; you are not ashamed to make yourselves strange to me.
4
And even if I truly strayed, my straying lodges with me.
5
If indeed you make yourselves great against me and argue my reproach against me,
6
know then that Eloah has bent me and enclosed His net around me.
7
See, I cry, ‘Violence!’ but I am not answered; I cry out, but there is no Judgment.
8
He walled up my Way, and I cannot cross; He set darkness upon my paths.
9
He stripped my glory from me and removed the crown from my head.
10
He tore me down all around, and I walked away; He uprooted my hope like a tree.
11
He kindled His anger against me and considered me as one of His adversaries.
12
His troops enter together; they raise their way against me and encamp around my tent.
13
He removed my brothers far from me, and those knowing me have become utterly estranged from me.
14
My relatives have ceased, and my acquaintances have forgotten me.
15
Those dwelling in my house and my female servants consider me a stranger; I have become foreign in their eyes.
16
I call my servant, but he does not answer; with my mouth I plead for favor from him.
17
My ruach is foreign to my ishah, and I am repulsive to the sons of my own womb.
18
Even young children reject me; when I rise, they speak against me.
19
All the men of my secret counsel abhor me, and those I loved have turned against me.
20
My bone clings to my skin and my flesh, and I escape with the skin of my teeth.
21
Show favor to me, show favor to me, my companions, for the hand of Eloah has touched me.
22
Why do you pursue me as El does and not become satisfied with my flesh?
23
Who shall grant that my words be written? Who shall grant that they be inscribed in a sefer?
24
That with an iron stylus and lead they be carved in rock forever?
25
Yet I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the latter time He shall rise upon the dust.
26
And after my skin has been struck off—this— yet from my flesh I shall behold Eloah,
27
whom I myself shall behold for me, and my eyes shall see, and not a stranger. My kidneys are completed within me.
28
If you say, ‘How shall we pursue him?’ since the root of the matter is found in me,
29
fear the sword for yourselves, for wrath brings the crookedness of the sword, so that you may know there is Judgment.”
