1
Then Tzophar the Naamati answered and said:
2
“Therefore my thoughts return me an answer, and because of my haste within me.
3
I hear the discipline of my humiliation, and the ruach from my understanding answers me.
4
Have you known this from ancient time, since Adam was placed upon the earth,
5
that the rejoicing of the wicked is near, and the joy of the profane is for a moment?
6
Though his exaltation rises to the heavens and his head touches the cloud,
7
like his own dung he perishes forever; those seeing him say, ‘Where is he?’
8
He flies away like a dream and is not found; he is driven away like a vision of the night.
9
The eye that saw him does not again, and his place beholds him no more.
10
His sons seek favor from the poor, and his hands return his strength.
11
His bones were full of his youth, but it lies down with him upon the dust.
12
Though evil is sweet in his mouth and he conceals it beneath his tongue,
13
though he spares it and does not release it and holds it within his palate,
14
his bread changes in his inward parts; it is the venom of cobras within him.
15
He swallowed strength, but he vomits it; El drives it out of his belly.
16
He sucks the venom of cobras; the tongue of a viper puts him to death.
17
He shall not see the channels, the rivers and torrents of honey and curds.
18
He returns what he labored for and does not swallow it; according to the strength of his exchange, he does not rejoice.
19
For he crushed and forsook the poor; he seized a house and did not build it.
20
Because he knew no quietness in his belly, he shall not escape with what he desired.
21
Nothing remained for him to devour; therefore his goodness shall not endure.
22
In the fullness of his sufficiency he is distressed; every hand of trouble comes against him.
23
When he is about to fill his belly, He sends the burning of His anger upon him and rains it upon him into his flesh.
24
He flees from a weapon of iron; a bronze bow pierces him through.
25
It is drawn and comes forth from his back; the glittering point comes from his gall. Terrors are upon him.
26
Every darkness is hidden for his treasures; a fire not blown devours him; it treats evilly whatever remains in his tent.
27
The heavens uncover his crookedness, and the earth rises against him.
28
The produce of his house is exiled, poured away in the day of His anger.
29
This is the portion of a wicked Adam from Elohim, and the inheritance of his saying from El.”
