1
“But now, Iyov, hear, please, my speech, and give ear to all my Words.
2
See now, I opened my mouth; my tongue has spoken in my palate.
3
My Words are from the uprightness of my heart, and my lips speak knowledge clearly.
4
The Ruach of El made me, and the breath of Shaddai gives me life.
5
If you are able, answer me; arrange yourself before my face; station yourself.
6
See, I am as your mouth before El; I also was pinched from clay.
7
See, my terror shall not frighten you, and my pressure shall not be heavy upon you.
8
Surely you have spoken in my ears, and I heard the voice of Words:
9
‘I am pure, without transgression; I am clean, and there is no crookedness in me.
10
See, He finds oppositions against me; He considers me His enemy.
11
He sets my feet in the stocks and guards all my paths.’
12
See, in this you are not righteous, I answer you, for Eloah is greater than mortal man.
13
Why do you contend against Him, that He does not answer concerning all His Words?
14
For El speaks once, and twice, though one does not perceive it:
15
in a dream, a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, in slumber upon the bed.
16
Then He opens the ear of men and seals their discipline,
17
to turn Adam from his deed and conceal pride from a mighty one.
18
He withholds his being from the pit and his life from crossing through the weapon.
19
He is corrected with pain upon his bed and with enduring contention in his bones,
20
so that his life abhors bread and his being desirable food.
21
His flesh is consumed from sight, and his bones, which were not seen, are laid bare.
22
His being draws near to the pit and his life to those causing death.
23
If there is a messenger for him, a mediator, one among a thousand, to declare to Adam his uprightness,
24
then He shows him favor and says, ‘Redeem him from descending to the pit; I have found a covering price.’
25
His flesh becomes fresher than in youth; he returns to the days of his young vigor.
26
He entreats Eloah, and He accepts him; he sees His face with a shout of joy, and He restores His righteousness to mortal man.
27
He sings before men and says, ‘I sinned and twisted what was upright, yet it was not equal to me.
28
He redeemed my being from crossing into the pit, and my life beholds light.’
29
See, El does all these things two times, even three, with a mighty one,
30
to return his being from the pit to be enlightened with the light of the living.
31
Give ear, Iyov; hear me. Be silent, and I shall speak.
32
If you have Words, answer me; speak, for I delight to declare you righteous.
33
If not, you hear me; be silent, and I shall teach you wisdom.”
