1
And Elihu answered and said:
2
“Hear my Words, wise ones; and you who know, give ear to me.
3
For the ear tests Words as the palate tastes food.
4
Let us choose Judgment for ourselves; let us know among ourselves what is good.
5
For Iyov said, ‘I am righteous, yet El removed my Judgment.
6
Should I lie concerning my Judgment? My arrow-wound is incurable, though I have no transgression.’
7
What mighty one is like Iyov, drinking mockery like water,
8
walking in company with workers of trouble and walking with wicked men?
9
For he said, ‘It does not profit a mighty one when he delights himself with Elohim.’
10
Therefore hear me, men of heart. Far be crookedness from El, and trouble from Shaddai.
11
For He repays Adam according to his work and causes an ish to find according to his path.
12
Surely El does not act wickedly, and Shaddai does not twist Judgment.
13
Who appointed the earth over Him? And who set the whole inhabited earth?
14
If He set His heart upon him, if He gathered his ruach and breath to Himself,
15
all flesh would expire together, and Adam would return to dust.
16
If there is understanding, hear this; give ear to the sound of my Words.
17
Can one who hates Judgment bind? Or shall you condemn the Abundant Righteous One?
18
Is it proper to say to a sovereign, ‘Worthless,’ or to nobles, ‘Wicked’?
19
He does not lift the face of rulers and does not recognize the wealthy before the poor, for all of them are the work of His hands.
20
In a moment they die; at midnight a people is shaken and crosses away, and the mighty is removed without a hand.
21
For His eyes are upon the Ways of an ish, and He sees all his steps.
22
There is no darkness or death-shadow for workers of trouble to hide there.
23
For He does not set yet more upon an ish for him to enter Judgment with El.
24
He shatters the mighty without searching and causes others to stand in their place.
25
Therefore He recognizes their works; He overturns them at night, and they are crushed.
26
In the place of the wicked He strikes them in the place of those seeing,
27
because they turned away from following Him and did not consider any of His Ways,
28
causing the cry of the poor to enter before Him, so that He hears the cry of the crushed.
29
When He makes quiet, who can condemn? When He conceals His face, who can behold Him? Whether against a nation or against Adam together,
30
so that a profane Adam does not reign, nor become a snare to a people.
31
For has anyone said to El, ‘I have borne; I shall not act corruptly.
32
What I do not see, teach me; if I have done trouble, I shall do so no more’?
33
Shall He repay according to your mind because you reject? For you choose, and not I. Therefore speak what you know.
34
Men of heart shall say to me, and a wise mighty one hearing me:
35
‘Iyov speaks without knowledge, and his words are without insight.’
36
My father, let Iyov be tested unto completion because of his answers among men of trouble.
37
For he adds transgression to his sin; he claps among us and multiplies his sayings against El.”
