1
And the sons of Yisra’el again did what was evil in the eyes of Yahuah, and Yahuah gave them into the hand of the Pelishtim forty years.
2
And there was one ish from Tzorah, from the family of the Dani, and his name was Manoach. And his ishah was barren and had not borne.
3
And the messenger of Yahuah appeared to the ishah and said to her, “See now, you are barren and have not borne, but you shall conceive and bear a son.
4
And now, please guard yourself, and do not drink wine or strong drink, and do not eat anything unclean.
5
For see, you shall conceive and bear a son, and no razor shall go up upon his head, for the young man shall be a Nazir of Elohim from the womb. And he shall begin to save Yisra’el from the hand of the Pelishtim.”
6
And the ishah came and spoke to her ish, saying, “An ish of Elohim came to me, and his appearance was like the appearance of a messenger of Elohim, exceedingly fearful. And I did not ask him from where he was, and he did not declare his name to me.
7
And he said to me, ‘See, you shall conceive and bear a son. And now, do not drink wine or strong drink, and do not eat anything unclean, for the young man shall be a Nazir of Elohim from the womb until the day of his death.’”
8
And Manoach entreated Yahuah and said, “Please, Adonai, let the ish of Elohim whom You sent come again to us, and let him teach us what we shall do with the young man who shall be born.”
9
And Elohim listened to the voice of Manoach, and the messenger of Elohim came again to the ishah as she was sitting in the field, and Manoach her ish was not with her.
10
And the ishah hurried and ran and declared to her ish, and said to him, “See, the ish who came to me the other day has appeared to me.”
11
And Manoach rose and went after his ishah, and came to the ish and said to him, “Are you the ish who spoke to the ishah?” And he said, “I am.”
12
And Manoach said, “Now let your words come to pass. What shall be the judgment of the young man, and his work?”
13
And the messenger of Yahuah said to Manoach, “From all that I said to the ishah, let her guard herself.
14
From all that comes from the vine she shall not eat, and wine or strong drink she shall not drink, and anything unclean she shall not eat. All that I commanded her, she shall guard.”
15
And Manoach said to the messenger of Yahuah, “Please let us detain you, and we will prepare before your face a young goat.”
16
And the messenger of Yahuah said to Manoach, “Though you detain me, I will not eat from your bread. But if you prepare an ascending offering, cause it to go up to Yahuah.” For Manoach did not know that he was the messenger of Yahuah.
17
And Manoach said to the messenger of Yahuah, “What is your name, so that when your words come to pass we may honor you?”
18
And the messenger of Yahuah said to him, “Why is this that you ask for my name, seeing it is wonderful?”
19
And Manoach took the young goat and the grain offering and caused them to go up upon the rock to Yahuah. And He did a wonder while Manoach and his ishah were looking.
20
And it came to pass, when the flame went up from upon the altar toward the heavens, that the messenger of Yahuah went up in the flame of the altar. And Manoach and his ishah were looking, and they fell upon their faces to the earth.
21
And the messenger of Yahuah did not again appear to Manoach or to his ishah. Then Manoach knew that he was the messenger of Yahuah.
22
And Manoach said to his ishah, “Dying, we shall surely die, for we have seen Elohim.”
23
But his ishah said to him, “If Yahuah had desired to put us to death, He would not have received from our hand an ascending offering and a grain offering, nor shown us all these things, nor at this time caused us to hear such things as these.”
24
And the ishah bore a son and called his name Shimshon. And the young man grew, and Yahuah blessed him.
25
And the Ruach of Yahuah began to move him in Machaneh-Dan, between Tzorah and Eshtaol.
