1
And the Word of Yahuah came to me, saying:
2
“What do you mean, that you use this proverb concerning the land of Yisra’el, saying: ‘The fathers eat sour grapes, and the teeth of the sons are set on edge’?
3
Living am I,” declares Adonai Yahuah, “you shall no longer use this proverb in Yisra’el.
4
See, all beings are Mine. As the being of the father, so also the being of the son is Mine. The being that sins— it shall die.
5
And if an ish is righteous and does Judgment and Righteousness,
6
and does not eat upon the mountains, and does not lift his eyes to the idols of the House of Yisra’el, and does not defile the ishah of his companion, and does not draw near to an ishah in her separation,
7
and does not oppress any ish, but returns the pledge to the debtor, commits no robbery, gives his bread to the hungry, and covers the naked with a garment,
8
does not give upon interest, and does not take increase, turns his hand from crookedness, and executes true Judgment between ish and ish,
9
walks in My statutes and guards My Judgments to do truth— he is righteous. Living, he shall surely live,” declares Adonai Yahuah.
10
“But if he fathers a son who is violent, a shedder of blood, and who does to a brother any of these things,
11
though the father himself did none of these things, but the son eats upon the mountains, defiles the ishah of his companion,
12
oppresses the poor and needy, commits robbery, does not return the pledge, lifts his eyes to the idols, does abomination,
13
gives upon interest and takes increase— shall he live? He shall not live. He has done all these abominations. Dying, he shall surely die. His blood shall be upon himself.
14
And see, if he fathers a son who sees all the sins his father committed, and he sees and does not do according to them,
15
does not eat upon the mountains, and does not lift his eyes to the idols of the House of Yisra’el, does not defile the ishah of his companion,
16
does not oppress any ish, does not hold back a pledge, does not commit robbery, gives his bread to the hungry, and covers the naked with a garment,
17
withdraws his hand from the poor, does not take interest or increase, does My Judgments, walks in My statutes— he shall not die for the crookedness of his father. Living, he shall surely live.
18
His father, because he oppressed with oppression, robbed his brother, and did what was not good in the midst of his people— see, he shall die in his crookedness.
19
Yet you say: ‘Why does the son not bear the crookedness of the father?’ When the son has done Judgment and Righteousness, and has guarded all My statutes and done them, living, he shall surely live.
20
The being that sins— it shall die. The son shall not bear the crookedness of the father, and the father shall not bear the crookedness of the son. The Righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.
21
But if the wicked turns from all his sins that he committed, and guards all My statutes, and does Judgment and Righteousness, living, he shall surely live. He shall not die.
22
All his transgressions that he committed shall not be remembered against him. By the Righteousness that he has done he shall live.
23
Do I delight at all in the death of the wicked?” declares Adonai Yahuah. “Is it not rather that he turn from his ways and live?
24
But when the righteous turns from his Righteousness and does crookedness, and acts according to all the abominations that the wicked does— shall he live? All his righteous deeds that he did shall not be remembered. In his treachery with which he acted treacherously, and in his sin with which he sinned, in them he shall die.
25
Yet you say: ‘The way of Adonai is not measured rightly.’ Hear now, House of Yisra’el: Is My way not measured rightly? Is it not your ways that are not measured rightly?
26
When the righteous turns from his Righteousness and does crookedness and dies because of it, for his crookedness that he did he dies.
27
And when the wicked turns from his wickedness that he committed and does Judgment and Righteousness, he shall preserve his being alive.
28
Because he saw and turned away from all his transgressions that he committed, living, he shall surely live. He shall not die.
29
Yet the House of Yisra’el says: ‘The way of Adonai is not measured rightly.’ Are My ways not measured rightly, House of Yisra’el? Is it not your ways that are not measured rightly?
30
Therefore, each ish according to his ways I will judge you, House of Yisra’el,” declares Adonai Yahuah. “Return, and turn yourselves back from all your transgressions, and crookedness shall not become a stumbling block to you.
31
Cast away from yourselves all your transgressions by which you have transgressed, and make for yourselves a new heart and a new ruach. For why should you die, House of Yisra’el?
32
For I do not delight in the death of the one who dies,” declares Adonai Yahuah. “Therefore return, and live.”
