1
And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first day of the month, that the Word of Yahuah came to me, saying:
2
“Son of Adam, say to Pharaoh king of Mitzrayim and to his multitude: ‘To whom are you like in your greatness?
3
See, Ashshur was a cedar in Levanon, with beautiful branches, a shady forest, and high in stature, and its top was among the thick clouds.
4
Waters made it great. The deep caused it to grow high. Its rivers flowed all around its planting, and it sent out its channels to all the trees of the field.
5
Therefore its stature was higher than all the trees of the field, and its branches multiplied, and its boughs became long because of the many waters when it sent them out.
6
In its branches all the birds of the heavens made their nests, and beneath its boughs all the beasts of the field gave birth, and beneath its shadow all great nations dwelt.
7
And it was beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches, for its root was by many waters.
8
The cedars in the garden of Elohim did not hide it. The cypress trees were not like its branches, and the plane trees were not like its boughs. No tree in the garden of Elohim was like it in its beauty.
9
I made it beautiful by the multitude of its branches, and all the trees of Eden that were in the garden of Elohim were jealous of it.
10
Therefore thus says Adonai Yahuah: Because you were high in stature, and he set his top among the thick clouds, and his heart was lifted up in his height,
11
therefore I gave him into the hand of the mighty one of the nations. Doing, he shall surely deal with him. According to his wickedness I drove him out.
12
And foreigners, the ruthless of the nations, cut him down and abandoned him. Upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches fell, and his boughs were broken by all the channels of the land. And all the peoples of the earth went down from his shadow and abandoned him.
13
Upon his fallen trunk all the birds of the heavens dwell, and upon his branches are all the beasts of the field,
14
so that none of all the trees by the waters may become high in their stature, and none may set their top among the thick clouds, and none of all that drink waters may stand over them in their height. For all of them are given to death, to the land beneath, in the midst of the sons of Adam, with those descending to the pit.
15
Thus says Adonai Yahuah: In the day when he went down to Sheol I caused mourning. I covered the deep because of him and restrained its rivers, and the many waters were held back. And I caused Levanon to mourn over him, and all the trees of the field fainted because of him.
16
At the sound of his fall I caused the nations to tremble, when I brought him down to Sheol with those descending to the pit. And all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Levanon, all that drink waters, were comforted in the land beneath.
17
They also went down with him to Sheol, to those slain by the sword, and those who were his arm, who dwelt beneath his shadow in the midst of the nations.
18
To whom then are you like in glory and greatness among the trees of Eden? Yet you shall be brought down with the trees of Eden to the land beneath. In the midst of the uncircumcised you shall lie, with those slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude,’ declares Adonai Yahuah.”
