1
The burden of the Valley of Vision. What is with you now, that all of you have gone up to the rooftops,
2
you who were full of noise, a tumultuous city, a rejoicing city? Your slain were not slain by the sword, nor did they die in battle.
3
All your rulers fled together; without the bow they were bound. All who were found among you were bound together, though they had fled far away.
4
Therefore I said: “Turn your eyes away from me. Let me weep bitterly. Do not press to comfort me concerning the destruction of the daughter of my people.”
5
For it is a day of confusion, and trampling, and perplexity from Adonai Yahuah of Hosts in the Valley of Vision— a tearing down of walls and a cry toward the mountain.
6
And Elam carried the quiver, with chariots of Adam and horsemen, and Qir uncovered the shield.
7
And it came to pass that your choicest valleys were full of chariots, and the horsemen set themselves at the gate.
8
And He uncovered the covering of Yehudah. And in that day you looked toward the weapons of the House of the Forest.
9
And you saw the breaches of the City of Daviyd, that they were many, and you gathered the waters of the lower pool.
10
And you counted the houses of Yerushalayim, and tore down houses to strengthen the wall.
11
And you made a reservoir between the two walls for the waters of the old pool. But you did not look toward the One who made it, and the One who formed it long ago you did not see.
12
And Adonai Yahuah of Hosts called in that day for weeping, and for mourning, and for baldness, and for girding with sackcloth.
13
But see—joy and gladness, slaughtering cattle and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine: “Eating and drinking, for tomorrow we die.”
14
And it was revealed in my ears by Yahuah of Hosts: “Surely this crookedness shall not be covered for you until you die,” says Adonai Yahuah of Hosts.
15
Thus says Adonai Yahuah of Hosts: “Go, come to this steward, to Shevna, who is over the House, and say:
16
‘What have you here, and whom have you here, that you have hewn for yourself a tomb here— hewing your tomb on high, carving a dwelling for yourself in the rock?
17
See, Yahuah shall hurl you away, mighty man, with a mighty hurling, and grasping, He shall surely grasp you.
18
Rolling, He shall surely roll you like a ball into a wide land. There you shall die, and there shall be the chariots of your glory— the shame of your master’s House.
19
And I will thrust you from your station, and from your standing He shall tear you down.
20
And it shall come to pass in that day that I will call My servant Elyaqim son of Chilqiyahu.
21
And I will clothe him with your robe, and with your sash I will strengthen him, and I will place your dominion into his hand. And he shall become a father to the inhabitant of Yerushalayim and to the House of Yehudah.
22
And I will place the Key of the House of Daviyd upon his shoulder. And he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
23
And I will fasten him like a peg in a secure place, and he shall become a Throne of Glory to his father’s House.
24
And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father’s House— the offspring and the descendants, every small vessel, from the vessels of bowls even to every vessel of jars.
25
In that day,” declares Yahuah of Hosts, “the peg fastened in the secure place shall be removed. And it shall be cut down and fall, and the burden upon it shall be cut off, for Yahuah has spoken.”
