1
The Word of Yahuah that came to Yirmeyahu concerning the matters of drought:
2
Yehudah mourns, and her gates languish. They grow dark upon the ground, and the cry of Yerushalayim ascends.
3
Their mighty ones send their little ones for water. They come to the cisterns and find no water. They return with their vessels empty; they are ashamed and humiliated and cover their heads.
4
Because the ground is shattered, for there has been no rain in the land, the farmers are ashamed; they cover their heads.
5
For even the doe in the field gives birth and forsakes her young, because there is no grass.
6
And the wild donkeys stand upon the bare heights. They gasp for ruach like jackals; their eyes fail because there is no vegetation.
7
Though our crookedness testifies against us, act, Yahuah, for the sake of Your Name. For our turnings-away are many; against You we have sinned.
8
Hope of Yisra’el, his Savior in the time of distress, why should You be like a stranger in the land, or like a traveler turning aside to lodge for a night?
9
Why should You be like an astonished ish, like a mighty one unable to save? Yet You are in our midst, Yahuah, and Your Name is called upon us. Do not leave us.
10
Thus says Yahuah concerning this people: “Thus they have loved to wander; they did not restrain their feet. Therefore Yahuah does not accept them. Now He remembers their crookedness and visits their sins.”
11
And Yahuah said to me, “Do not pray for this people for good.
12
When they fast, I shall not hear their cry. When they offer ascending offering and grain offering, I shall not accept them. But by sword, famine, and pestilence I shall consume them.”
13
Then I said, “Ah, Adonai Yahuah! See, the prophets say to them, ‘You shall not see sword, and famine shall not come upon you, for enduring shalom I shall give you in this place.’”
14
And Yahuah said to me, “The prophets prophesy falsehood in My Name. I did not send them, nor did I command them, nor did I speak to them. They prophesy to you a vision of falsehood, divination, emptiness, and the deceit of their own heart.
15
Therefore thus says Yahuah concerning the prophets who prophesy in My Name though I did not send them, and who say, ‘Sword and famine shall not be in this land’: By sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed.
16
And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast into the streets of Yerushalayim because of famine and sword. There shall be no one to bury them— them, their women, their sons, and their daughters. And I shall pour their evil upon them.
17
And you shall speak this Word to them: ‘Let my eyes flow with tears night and day, and let them not cease, for with a great fracture the virgin daughter of my people is fractured, with an exceedingly grievous wound.
18
If I go out into the field, see—those pierced by the sword. If I enter the city, see—the sicknesses of famine. For both prophet and Kohen wander into a land they do not know.’”
19
Have You utterly rejected Yehudah? Has Your being despised Tziyon? Why have You struck us, with no healing for us? We wait for shalom, but there is no good; for a time of healing, but see—terror.
20
We know, Yahuah, our wickedness and the crookedness of our fathers, for we have sinned against You.
21
Do not reject us for the sake of Your Name. Do not dishonor the Throne of Your glory. Remember; do not break Your Covenant with us.
22
Are there among the vanities of the nations any who cause rain? Or do the heavens give showers? Is it not You, Yahuah our Elohim? Therefore we wait for You, for You have made all these.
