1
Then all the captains of the armies, Yochanan son of Qareach, Yezanyahu son of Hoshayahu, and all the people from small even to great drew near.
2
And they said to Yirmeyahu the prophet, “Please let our supplication fall before your face, and pray for us to Yahuah your Elohim concerning all this remnant. For we remain few from many, as your eyes see us.
3
And let Yahuah your Elohim declare to us the Way in which we should walk and the Word that we should do.”
4
And Yirmeyahu the prophet said to them, “I have heard. See, I shall pray to Yahuah your Elohim according to your words. And it shall be that every Word Yahuah answers you, I shall declare to you. I shall not withhold a Word from you.”
5
And they said to Yirmeyahu, “Let Yahuah become a true and faithful witness against us if we do not do according to every Word with which Yahuah your Elohim sends you to us.
6
Whether good or evil, we shall hear the voice of Yahuah our Elohim to whom we send you, so that it may be good for us when we hear the voice of Yahuah our Elohim.”
7
And it came to be at the end of ten days that the Word of Yahuah came to Yirmeyahu.
8
Then he called Yochanan son of Qareach, all the captains of the armies who were with him, and all the people from small even to great.
9
And he said to them, “Thus says Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el, to whom you sent me to cause your supplication to fall before His face:
10
‘If dwelling, you dwell in this land, then I shall build you and not pull you down; I shall plant you and not uproot you. For I have relented concerning the evil that I did to you.
11
Do not fear before the face of the sovereign of Bavel before whom you are afraid. Do not fear before his face,’ declares Yahuah, ‘for I am with you to save you and to deliver you from his hand.
12
And I shall give you compassion, and he shall have compassion upon you and return you to your own ground.’
13
But if you say, ‘We shall not dwell in this land,’ so as not to hear the voice of Yahuah your Elohim,
14
saying, ‘No, but we shall enter the land of Mitzrayim, where we shall see no battle, hear no voice of the shofar, and hunger for no bread, and there we shall dwell’—
15
then hear now the Word of Yahuah, remnant of Yehudah. Thus says Yahuah of Hosts, Elohim of Yisra’el: ‘If setting, you set your faces to enter Mitzrayim and enter to dwell there as foreigners,
16
then it shall be that the sword before which you fear shall overtake you there in the land of Mitzrayim, and the famine for which you are anxious shall cling after you there in Mitzrayim, and there you shall die.
17
And it shall be that all the men who set their faces to enter Mitzrayim to dwell there as foreigners shall die by sword, famine, and pestilence. They shall have no survivor or escapee from before the face of the evil that I am bringing upon them.’
18
For thus says Yahuah of Hosts, Elohim of Yisra’el: ‘As My anger and My fury were poured out upon the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, so My fury shall be poured out upon you when you enter Mitzrayim. And you shall become a curse, an astonishment, a reproach, and a humiliation; and you shall see this place no more.’
19
Yahuah has spoken concerning you, remnant of Yehudah: ‘Do not enter Mitzrayim.’ Knowing, know that I have testified against you this day.
20
For you deceived your own beings when you sent me to Yahuah your Elohim, saying, ‘Pray for us to Yahuah our Elohim, and according to all that Yahuah our Elohim says, declare to us, and we shall do it.’
21
And I have declared it to you this day, but you have not heard the voice of Yahuah your Elohim or anything with which He sent me to you.
22
And now, knowing, know that by sword, famine, and pestilence you shall die in the place where you desire to enter to dwell as foreigners.”
