1
Concerning Moav: Thus says Yahuah of Hosts, Elohim of Yisra’el: “Woe to Nevo, for it is destroyed! Qiryatayim is ashamed and captured. The stronghold is ashamed and shattered.
2
The praise of Moav is no more. In Cheshbon they devised evil against her: ‘Come, and let us cut her off from being a nation.’ You also, Madmen, shall be silenced; the sword shall walk after you.
3
A voice of crying from Choronayim— destruction and great fracture!
4
Moav is broken; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.
5
For at the ascent to Luchit, with weeping, weeping ascends; for at the descent of Choronayim the adversaries have heard a cry of fracture.
6
Flee! Save your beings! Become like a juniper in the wilderness.
7
For because you trusted in your works and your treasures, you also shall be captured. And Kemosh shall go into exile, his Kohenim and his rulers together.
8
And the destroyer shall come to every city, and no city shall escape. The valley shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as Yahuah has spoken.
9
Give wings to Moav, for flying, she shall fly away; and her cities shall become a desolation, without inhabitant in them.
10
Cursed is the one doing the work of Yahuah deceitfully, and cursed is the one withholding his sword from blood.
11
Moav has been at ease from his youth; he has settled upon his lees. He was not emptied from vessel to vessel, and he did not go into exile. Therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent did not change.
12
Therefore see, days are coming,” declares Yahuah, “when I shall send pourers to him, and they shall pour him out. They shall empty his vessels and shatter their jars.
13
And Moav shall be ashamed because of Kemosh, as the House of Yisra’el was ashamed because of Beyt-El, their trust.
14
How can you say, ‘We are mighty ones and men of strength for battle’?
15
Moav is destroyed, and his cities have ascended in smoke. The choice of his young men have descended to slaughter,” declares the Sovereign, whose Name is Yahuah of Hosts.
16
“The evil of Moav is near to come, and his evil hurries exceedingly.
17
Mourn for him, all around him, and all who know his name. Say, ‘How the strong staff is broken, the rod of beauty!’
18
Descend from glory and sit in thirst, inhabitant daughter of Divon, for the destroyer of Moav has ascended against you and ruined your strongholds.
19
Stand by the way and watch, inhabitant of Aroer. Ask the fleeing ishah and the escaping ish; say, ‘What has come to be?’
20
Moav is ashamed, for he is shattered. Howl and cry! Declare by Arnon that Moav is destroyed.
21
And Judgment has come to the land of the plain— to Cholon, Yahatzah, and Mepha’at;
22
to Divon, Nevo, and Beyt-Divlatayim;
23
to Qiryatayim, Beyt-Gamul, and Beyt-Meon;
24
to Qeriyot and Botzrah; and to all the cities of the land of Moav, far and near.
25
The horn of Moav is cut off, and his arm is broken,” declares Yahuah.
26
“Make him drunk, for he magnified himself against Yahuah. Moav shall clap in his vomit, and he also shall become a mockery.
27
For was not Yisra’el a mockery to you? Was he found among thieves? For whenever you speak of him, you shake your head.
28
Forsake the cities and dwell in the rock, inhabitants of Moav. Become like the dove nesting at the sides of the mouth of a pit.
29
We have heard the pride of Moav— exceedingly proud— his height, his pride, his majesty, and the exaltation of his heart.
30
I know his wrath,” declares Yahuah, “but it is not established; his boasts have not established anything.
31
Therefore I shall howl over Moav; for all Moav I shall cry out. For the men of Qir-Cheres one shall mourn.
32
More than the weeping for Yazer I shall weep for you, vine of Sivmah. Your branches crossed the sea; they reached as far as the sea of Yazer. The destroyer has fallen upon your summer fruit and your vintage.
33
Joy and gladness are gathered away from the orchard and from the land of Moav. I have caused wine to cease from the winepresses. No one treads with shouting; their shouting is not shouting.
34
From the cry of Cheshbon even to Elaleh, as far as Yahatz, they have given their voice; from Tzoar even to Choronayim, to Eglat-Shelishiyah; for even the waters of Nimrim shall become desolations.
35
And I shall cause to cease from Moav,” declares Yahuah, “the one causing an offering to ascend at the high place and the one burning incense to his elohim.
36
Therefore My heart sounds like pipes for Moav, and My heart sounds like pipes for the men of Qir-Cheres. Therefore the abundance he made has perished.
37
For every head is bald, every beard is clipped; upon all hands are cuts, and sackcloth upon the waist.
38
Upon all the roofs of Moav and in its squares, all of it is lamentation. For I shattered Moav like a vessel in which there is no delight,” declares Yahuah.
39
“How he is shattered! How they howl! How Moav turned the back of the neck in shame! Moav has become a mockery and a terror to all around him.”
40
For thus says Yahuah: “See, like an eagle he flies and spreads his wings over Moav.
41
The cities are captured, and the strongholds are seized. And the heart of the mighty ones of Moav in that day shall become like the heart of an ishah laboring in birth.
42
And Moav shall be destroyed from being a people, because he magnified himself against Yahuah.
43
Fear, the pit, and the snare are upon you, inhabitant of Moav,” declares Yahuah.
44
“The one fleeing from before the face of fear shall fall into the pit, and the one ascending from the pit shall be caught in the snare. For I shall bring upon her—upon Moav— the year of their visitation,” declares Yahuah.
45
“In the shadow of Cheshbon the fleeing ones stand without strength. For fire has gone out from Cheshbon and flame from between Sichon. It has devoured the corner of Moav and the crown of the sons of tumult.
46
Woe to you, Moav! The people of Kemosh have perished. For your sons are taken into captivity, and your daughters into captivity.
47
Yet I shall return the captivity of Moav in the latter days,” declares Yahuah. Thus far is the Judgment of Moav.
