1
Thus says Yahuah: “See, I am awakening against Bavel and against the inhabitants of Lev-Qamai a destroying ruach.
2
And I shall send winnowers to Bavel, and they shall winnow her and empty her land. For they shall be against her all around in the day of evil.
3
Let the archer bend against the one bending his bow and against the one rising in his armor. Do not spare her young men; devote all her army.
4
And the pierced shall fall in the land of the Kasdim, and those thrust through in her streets.
5
For Yisra’el and Yehudah have not been widowed by their Elohim, by Yahuah of Hosts, though their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Yisra’el.
6
Flee from the midst of Bavel, and each ish save his being. Do not perish in her crookedness, for this is the time of the vengeance of Yahuah; He repays her a repayment.
7
Bavel was a cup of gold in the hand of Yahuah, making all the earth drunk. The nations drank from her wine; therefore the nations act madly.
8
Suddenly Bavel has fallen and is broken. Howl over her. Take balm for her pain; perhaps she may be healed.
9
‘We would have healed Bavel, but she was not healed. Forsake her, and let each ish go to his own land, for her Judgment reaches to the heavens and is lifted to the clouds.’
10
Yahuah has brought forth our Righteousness. Come, and let us recount in Tziyon the work of Yahuah our Elohim.
11
Polish the arrows; fill the shields. Yahuah has awakened the ruach of the sovereigns of Madai, because His purpose is against Bavel to destroy her. For it is the vengeance of Yahuah, the vengeance of His Temple.
12
Against the walls of Bavel lift a banner. Strengthen the guard; raise watchmen; prepare the ambushes. For Yahuah has both purposed and done what He spoke against the inhabitants of Bavel.
13
You who dwell upon many waters, abundant in treasures, your end has come, the measure of your gain.
14
Yahuah of Hosts has sworn by His being: ‘Surely I shall fill you with Adam like locusts, and they shall give a shout against you.’
15
He made the earth by His power; He established the world by His wisdom and stretched out the heavens by His understanding.
16
At the giving of His voice there is a multitude of waters in the heavens. He causes vapors to rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain and brings wind from His treasuries.
17
Every Adam is brutish, without knowledge; every refiner is ashamed by the carved image. For his poured image is falsehood, and there is no ruach in them.
18
They are breath, a work of mockery. In the time of their visitation they shall perish.
19
The Portion of Yaaqov is not like these, for He is the Former of all, and Yisra’el is the tribe of His Inheritance. Yahuah of Hosts is His Name.
20
You are My war-club, instruments of battle. With you I shall shatter nations, and with you I shall destroy kingdoms.
21
With you I shall shatter horse and its rider; with you I shall shatter chariot and its rider.
22
With you I shall shatter ish and ishah; with you I shall shatter elder and youth; with you I shall shatter young man and virgin.
23
With you I shall shatter shepherd and his flock; with you I shall shatter farmer and his yoke-pair; with you I shall shatter governors and rulers.
24
“And I shall repay Bavel and all the inhabitants of Kasdim all their evil that they did in Tziyon before your eyes,” declares Yahuah.
25
“See, I am against you, destroying mountain,” declares Yahuah, “who destroys all the earth. I shall stretch out My hand against you, roll you down from the rocks, and make you a burned mountain.
26
And they shall not take from you a stone for a corner or a stone for foundations, but everlasting desolations you shall become,” declares Yahuah.
27
Lift a banner in the land; blow the shofar among the nations. Set apart nations against her; cause the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz to hear against her. Appoint a commander against her; cause horses to ascend like bristling locusts.
28
Set apart nations against her— the sovereigns of Madai, their governors, all their rulers, and all the land of their rule.
29
And the earth shakes and writhes, for every purpose of Yahuah against Bavel stands, to make the land of Bavel a desolation, without inhabitant.
30
The mighty ones of Bavel have ceased to fight; they remain in the strongholds. Their might has dried; they have become as women. Her dwellings are kindled; her bars are broken.
31
Runner runs to meet runner, and messenger to meet messenger, to declare to the sovereign of Bavel that his city is captured from end to end;
32
that the crossings are seized, the reeds burned with fire, and the men of battle shattered.
33
For thus says Yahuah of Hosts, Elohim of Yisra’el: “The daughter of Bavel is like a threshing floor at the time it is trodden. Yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come.”
34
“Nevukhadretztzar sovereign of Bavel devoured me; he crushed me. He set me as an empty vessel; he swallowed me like a sea-monster. He filled his belly with my delicacies; he rinsed me away.
35
May the violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Bavel,” says the inhabitant of Tziyon. “And my blood upon the inhabitants of Kasdim,” says Yerushalayim.
36
Therefore thus says Yahuah: “See, I am pleading your cause and avenging your vengeance. I shall dry her sea and make her spring dry.
37
And Bavel shall become heaps, a dwelling of jackals, an astonishment and a hissing, without inhabitant.
38
Together they roar like young lions; they growl like cubs of lions.
39
In their heat I shall set their feast and make them drunk, so that they exult and sleep an everlasting sleep and do not awake,” declares Yahuah.
40
“I shall bring them down like lambs to slaughter, like rams with male goats.
41
How Sheshakh is captured, and the praise of all the earth is seized! How Bavel has become an astonishment among the nations!
42
The sea has ascended over Bavel; by the multitude of its waves she is covered.
43
Her cities have become a desolation, a dry land and a wilderness— a land in which no ish dwells and through which no son of Adam passes.
44
And I shall visit Bel in Bavel and bring out of his mouth what he swallowed. The nations shall no longer flow to him; even the wall of Bavel has fallen.
45
Go out from her midst, My people, and each ish save his being from the burning anger of Yahuah.
46
And do not let your heart become faint, and do not fear at the report heard in the land. A report shall come in one year, and afterward in another year a report; violence shall be in the land, ruler against ruler.
47
Therefore see, days are coming when I shall visit the carved images of Bavel. All her land shall be ashamed, and all her pierced shall fall in her midst.
48
Then the heavens and earth and all that is in them shall sing over Bavel, for from the north the destroyers shall come to her,” declares Yahuah.
49
“As Bavel caused the pierced of Yisra’el to fall, so at Bavel shall fall the pierced of all the earth.
50
You who escaped the sword, go; do not stand. Remember Yahuah from afar, and let Yerushalayim ascend upon your heart.
51
‘We are ashamed, for we heard reproach; humiliation covered our faces, for foreigners entered the Set-Apart Places of the House of Yahuah.’
52
Therefore see, days are coming,” declares Yahuah, “when I shall visit her carved images, and throughout all her land the pierced shall groan.
53
Though Bavel ascends to the heavens, and though she fortifies the height of her strength, from Me destroyers shall come to her,” declares Yahuah.
54
A voice of crying from Bavel, and great fracture from the land of the Kasdim!
55
For Yahuah is destroying Bavel and causing the great voice to perish from her. Their waves roar like many waters; the sound of their voice is given.
56
For the destroyer has come upon her—upon Bavel. Her mighty ones are captured; their bows are broken. For Yahuah is an El of repayments; repaying, He repays.
57
“And I shall make her rulers and her wise ones drunk, her governors, her officials, and her mighty ones. They shall sleep an everlasting sleep and shall not awake,” declares the Sovereign, whose Name is Yahuah of Hosts.
58
Thus says Yahuah of Hosts: “The broad walls of Bavel shall be utterly pulled down, and her high gates shall be burned with fire. The peoples shall labor for emptiness, and the nations for fire; and they shall become weary.”
59
The Word that Yirmeyahu the prophet commanded Serayahu son of Neriyahu son of Machseyahu, when he went with Tzidqiyahu sovereign of Yehudah to Bavel in the fourth year of his reign. And Serayahu was master of the resting place.
60
And Yirmeyahu wrote in one scroll all the evil that would come upon Bavel— all these Words written concerning Bavel.
61
And Yirmeyahu said to Serayahu, “When you come to Bavel, then see that you read all these Words.
62
And you shall say, ‘Yahuah, You have spoken concerning this place to cut it off, so that no inhabitant is in it, from Adam even to beast, but that it becomes everlasting desolations.’
63
And it shall be when you complete reading this scroll, tie a stone to it and cast it into the midst of Perat.
64
And you shall say, ‘Thus Bavel shall sink and shall not rise before the face of the evil that I am bringing upon her; and they shall become weary.’” Thus far are the Words of Yirmeyahu.
