1
In the eighth month, in the second year of Daryavesh, the Word of Yahuah came to Zekharyah son of Berekh’yah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:
2
“Yahuah was exceedingly angry with your fathers.
3
Therefore say to them: Thus says Yahuah of Hosts: ‘Return to Me,’ declares Yahuah of Hosts, ‘and I will return to you,’ says Yahuah of Hosts.
4
Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets called, saying: ‘Thus says Yahuah of Hosts: Return now from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.’ But they did not hear and did not give ear to Me,” declares Yahuah.
5
“Your fathers— where are they? And the prophets— do they live forever?
6
But My Words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? And they returned and said: ‘As Yahuah of Hosts purposed to do to us according to our ways and according to our deeds, so He has dealt with us.’”
7
On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shevat, in the second year of Daryavesh, the Word of Yahuah came to Zekharyah son of Berekh’yah, son of Iddo, the prophet.
8
I saw in the night, and see, an ish riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the hollow. And behind him were red horses, sorrel horses, and white horses.
9
And I said: “My master, what are these?” And the messenger who spoke with me said to me: “I will show you what these are.”
10
And the ish who stood among the myrtle trees answered and said: “These are those whom Yahuah has sent to walk to and fro through the earth.”
11
And they answered the messenger of Yahuah who stood among the myrtle trees, and said: “We have walked to and fro through the earth, and see, all the earth sits still and is at rest.”
12
Then the messenger of Yahuah answered and said: “Yahuah of Hosts, how long will You not have compassion upon Yerushalayim and upon the cities of Yehudah, against which You have been indignant these seventy years?”
13
And Yahuah answered the messenger who spoke with me with good words, comforting words.
14
And the messenger who spoke with me said to me: “Cry out, saying: Thus says Yahuah of Hosts: ‘I am jealous for Yerushalayim and for Tziyon with great jealousy.
15
And I am exceedingly angry with the nations that are at ease, for I was angry only a little, but they helped toward evil.’
16
Therefore thus says Yahuah: ‘I have returned to Yerushalayim with compassion. My House shall be built in her,’ declares Yahuah of Hosts, ‘and a measuring line shall be stretched over Yerushalayim.’
17
Cry out again, saying: Thus says Yahuah of Hosts: ‘My cities shall again overflow with good, and Yahuah shall again comfort Tziyon and again choose Yerushalayim.’”
18
And I lifted my eyes and saw, and see, four horns.
19
And I said to the messenger who spoke with me: “What are these?” And he said to me: “These are the horns that scattered Yehudah, Yisra’el, and Yerushalayim.”
20
And Yahuah showed me four craftsmen.
21
And I said: “What are these coming to do?” And He said: “These are the horns that scattered Yehudah so that no ish lifted up his head. But these have come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations that lifted up their horn against the land of Yehudah to scatter it.”
