The older covenantal strand says that before the destruction of the House he concealed the Ark, the Torah objects, and the sacred vessels within rock. He declared that the concealed things would not be brought out by ordinary hands and that the place would remain hidden until the appointed restoration. The story joins Yirmeyahu with Mosheh as guardians of covenantal testimony.
